Miss Gaffe wins Hot Springs debut with Derby prospects
Miss Gaffe a two year old Kentucky bred filly owned by Dr. E. E. Blackwood won her first outing at Hot Springs Arkansas Race Meet last Friday by six lengths from a twelve horse field in a half mile race. She earned payoffs of 30 12.40 and 8.80 and is eligible for the Kentucky Derby nest year. Her next race will be the Oaklawn Preview on March 26.

Funeral Rites Held For Lt William Rollins
Funeral rites for Lt William Rollins 26 killed in action in Korea October 8 1951 were held at the Sidney Church of Christ October 16 under VFW direction with church ministers. Interment was in Pender grass Cemetery. Escort was his brother George Rollins Jr stationed in Washington with the Army Air Force. Rollins born Port Arthur Texas August 18 1925 moved to Sidney in 1933 attended Sidney High School Tarleton State College and was a senior at the University of Texas when recalled. He served in the Navy in World War II and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army October 20 1950. He is survived by his parents and brother and a sister Bessie.

Car Registration Hits 2009 As Deadline Near
Comanche County motorists have bought 2009 1952 license tags by Wednesday noon as officials prepare for a last minute rush. About 2,500 receipts are expected in ten days, with $27,730.53 collected so far for 1952 tags. Total 1951 registrations reach 7,334. No Trace Of Stolen Old Cora Courthouse Bell
Sheriff Boykin reports no sign of the 1000 plus pound Old Cora Courthouse bell stolen about two weeks earlier from Lake Eanes Park. The bell, mounted on a steel frame, rested atop a cliff near the lake and dates to 1856. Authorities warn junk dealers and Texas peace officers to watch for the bell.

Fire Destroys Gore Brothers Feed Mill
A fire of undetermined origin destroyed the Gore Brothers Feed Mill near Fort Worth Highway Tuesday night just before midnight. Loss estimated at 35 000 to 40 000 dollars with 30 000 coverage on the building and equipment. fertilizer grains and seeds stock were uninsured. The Gore firm operated a retail feed store at 201 S Houston. The mill was one of the largest and most modern in the area, located outside the city.
