Community wide Easter Sunrise service planned for Sunday April 13 at 6 30 AM on the Comanche football field with free admission. Local businesses promote free offers and sales including a free motor tune up at James Motor Company and various coupons and prizes at Gore Bros Piggly Wiggly and others.
Wamego Kansas leader W J Parks 39 was chosen to head the Comanche County Rural Electric Cooperative and will assume duties April 15. The appointment follows a field of more than fifty applicants and covers Comanche Brown Mills Callahan Stephens and Erath counties serving about 5000 members. The REA guided group includes officers S J Isham Jr temporary manager Walter Durham Jr president and others. A Parliamentary Law Course for about 100 people is set for Saturday at the West Ward Lunchroom taught by Mrs James Leonard with PTA support from Comanche and Erath counties.
Comanche County Girls 4-H Clubs plan a rummage cake cookie and pie sale Saturday March 29 in Comanche next to LaDora's Beauty Shop to fund ribbons for the April 19 Dress Revue and to send delegates to the State 4-H Round-Up this summer.
Comanche High School track team will compete in the John Tarleton College Invitation Track and Field meet at Stephenville on Saturday afternoon and night.
Comanche High School girls win the district volleyball title at Dublin defeating Cisco 15-12 15-10 in the finals after a 15-8 15-13 semifinal win over Dublin. The team includes Mary Jean Andress Janette Hall Linda Glasgow Linda Bragg and Jo Johnston.
Comanche girls Mary Jean Andress and Janette Hall defeated Hamilton 6-2 5-7 7-5 to win the district doubles title at Dublin. They beat Eastland 6-3 6-3 and De Leon 6-0 6-1 en route to the finals.

Comanche County tax officials anticipate a three day surge as 2 000 to 2 500 residents rush to obtain 1952 license tags before the April 1 deadline. Edwin A Sartor says offices stay open noon Saturday and Monday with extended Monday hours to accommodate late registrants. Through Wednesday, motor vehicle license receipts total 39 059 27 dollars, well below last year’s 70 000 plus, while registrations stand at 2 874 versus 5 200 a year ago.
Four Comanche High School basketball squads and four coaches will be guests of Sherman Hart at the Sun Drive-In Theatre next Tuesday night for a showing of Harlem Globe-Trotters. Teams include CHS A and B boys, CHS girls, and the junior high squads. Coaches are Herman Moore P T Galliga Melvin Borchert and Miss Ross.
Georgia Emma Atwood 74 of Comanche died March 20 at home after months of illness. Funeral March 21 at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Johnson. Interment Oakood Cemetery. Survived by daughter Velma Stanton and sons Gayle, Odell, and Wilmerth Atwood, plus relatives. Born 1878 in Bell County, she married Jesse Atwood in 1893 and lived in Comanche since 1897.
Bob Brandt, Gustine High School athletic coach, was elected superintendent of Gustine Public Schools, succeeding Harold Dobbs who resigned. Brandt, a Howard Payne graduate, taught at Blanket and Carbon before joining Gustine two years ago. Dobbs plans to enter business after leaving with an offer from a major oil firm.
More than 200 people attended the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet at the high school gymnasium Monday night. Howell Cobb presided, with Nine Note Nuts performing and an address by Secretary of State John Ben Sheppard. Out of town guests included officials from Stephenville and Comanche, plus attendees from Brownwood De Leon Abilene and Waco.
The Kelly Morris Circus visits town with two shows on Thursday March 27 at 3 30 pm and 8 pm. Featured acts include Blanche the largest elephant, Miss Gladys Gille n lion tamer Captain O Hare the VFW. Admission 50 cents for children and one dollar for adults tax included.
The Grammar School PTA presents a musical Over Mountain River and Plain on Thursday night April 3 at 7 45 in the Auditorium. Admission is free with a silver collection for the new Grammar School Library. The program features sixth grade students with John played by Bobbie Arthur and Mary Margaret Edmondson at the piano. The Tune Twisters from the eighth grade perform. direction by Miss Jean Wilson. A preview skit will be shown at 3 o clock the same day at the Grammar School PTA meeting.
Biggs, who is attending training school at John Sealy, Galveston, visits his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Biggs.
Governor Shivers granted a 30 day stay of execution for William K. Jones who faced the electric chair after a murder linked to his 12 year old daughter and wife. The delay follows a request for more psychiatric information from State Prison Psychiatrist C A Shaw. Jones was to be buried in Sipe Springs after the planned death. A revival at First Methodist Church opens March 30 led by Rev L Stanley Williams with daily services.
Widow of James L. Cox died March 21 at 407 W Central Pri day after a year of illness. Funeral services were held at Comanche Funeral Home with Elder Len Dalton and Rev. Robert Hermpfling officiating. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Survivors include three children Elbert Tom Armstrong Cox and four grandchildren. large turnout noted.
Comanche postmaster Robert L. Eat announced the ten percent penalty on bulk postal card purchases was removed. The change took effect March 22, with cards selling at 2 cents each. From January 1, 1952 to March 22 buyers of more than 50 cards paid the penalty.
Election of school trustees in Comanche County will occur Saturday April 5. Filing closed March 25.
