WPA Gives Comanche County $61k in Food and Clothing in 1941

A 1941 report to County Judge H H Lockridge from Anson M Cone details 409 cases and 1,119 people served by the WPA Commodity Distribution in Comanche County. The program distributed $39,317.41 in food and $20,102.25 in clothing plus infant and garment items to 22 schools and 2,512 free lunches.

Notice on Class 1-A Registrants Induction Breaks

Upon arrival at the Army Examination and Induction Station selectees will be physically examined and those accepted will be inducted and sent to Reception Centers. Reception center commanders may grant a furlough up to ten days to complete personal and business affairs to avoid hardship for the soldier.

Teachers Elect Convention Delegates in Comanche County

The Comanche County Educational Association chose delegates for the District House of Delegates to meet in San Angelo March 19 and 20. Elected delegates are W. Z. Compton J. E. Lightfoot and Dale Howard with alternates Miss Hattie Brightman J. B. Cooper and M. C. Kay. County Superintendent Dale Howard, vice-president of the 21-county Mid-Texas Association, will preside over the First General Session and speak at the Rural Administrators Section.

Pvt Houston Robertson Captures Fort Leonard Wood Marksmanship Title

Pvt Houston Robertson of Comanche won the Fort Leonard Wood marksmanship championship in Missouri last week. He tied with another soldier at 93 hits of 100, then prevailed with 98 hits in a second 100-shot round, earning the title and a leave of absence to visit his wife and relatives.

Debt Adjustment Meeting April 2 in Comanche County

Farmers with heavy debts can seek relief from the Comanche County Farm Debt Adjustment and Tenure Improvement Committee. Irwin Ingram of the Farm Security Administration says the committee will hold a 10:00 a.m. meeting on April 2 at the SA Office to work out debt payment schedules with debtors and creditors. Thirty Three Men Practice Spring Football Here

Amateur Fights Tuesday at Comanche Gymnasium

About fifty tons of abandoned street car rails were salvaged under a WPA project in Paris Texas for war production. Comanche County designates a 2,800 foot wildcat drill for the No. 1 Pink Scott in section 21 block 2 H&TC, eight miles west of De Leon. F. O. Akin of Corning Iowa applies to drill from 660 feet inside north and west lines of the NW SE quarter. The plan calls for 2,800 feet using cable tools.

Funeral rites today for Mrs J P Graham at Methodist Church

Funeral services for Mrs. J. P. Graham, aged over 90, will be held today at 10 o'clock in the local Methodist Church. The pastor Rev A B English and former pastor Rev E N Scarlett of Ranger will conduct the rites. Mrs. Graham, longtime resident, was active in church work and taught piano in Comanche and led a Sunday School class for more than 25 years.
