Banquet Draws 400 Plus to Comanche CHS Event

More than 400 people attended the Comanche High School football banquet in the CHS gym. Paul Bryant spoke, praising players and stressing strong showings for the 1955 season. A&M coach Bryant highlighted goals for a tougher Southwestern Conference and better wins. Thirty-two jackets and twenty-two A letters were awarded to CHS players, with coaches and staff receiving sweaters.

Wid Spivey Dies Suddenly Former Fort Worth Sheriff

Wid Spivey former sheriff and police captain of White Settlement died of a heart attack Saturday March 12 after answering an emergency call. Born May 26, 1897 in Hamilton County he lived in Comanche County most of his life. Funeral in Comanche with interment at Oakwood Cemetery. pallbearers include local officials and White Settlement Police members.

First Money Released To Comanche County Rural Phone Coop

REA authorities in Washington release the first funds from a 666000 program for Comanche County Rural Telephone Cooperative to serve Sidney Hasse Proctor and Newburg. Engineering firm starts plans construction to be let in about 60 days with work hoped to begin in 20 days. The co op has 718 members signed and aims to expand service across Comanche County.

Joe Waring Named Red Cross County Chairman

Joe Waring of Comanche, an insurance man, is named Comanche County Red Cross chairman. He says details of the annual Red Cross Fund Drive to begin soon will be released next week. Comanche County previously led Texas and the nation twice in Red Cross goals during World War I under Roy Brannan Sr.

Parker couple announce birth of son in Comanche

Mr and Mrs Bill Parker announce the birth of a son on Sunday March 13 weighing eight pounds eight ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Troy Marshall and Mr and Mrs R E Parker of Comanche. Dean Honored for 25 Years of Agricultural Teaching at CHS

Maurice S. Dean of Comanche High School agriculture will be honored at the Texas Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association convention next August. He will receive a pin for 25 years of service, having taught at Comanche since 1942 with prior posts at Munday Whitesboro Burkburnett and Rockwall. Dean earned a BS in Agriculture in 1931 and an MA in Horticultural Science in 1950, helped establish the FFA in Texas, and supervises a 350 acre ranch near Gustine with his wife at 606 N Elm. Their daughter Frances Ann attends North Texas State College.

Public School Week Draws 425 Visitors Across District

Comanche Public Schools reported 425 visitors during Public School Week March 7 to 11. Third grade staged The Traveling Musician on March 9 for Ward School P T A, while eighth grade Future Citizens of America held a meeting with 15 guests. High School guests included School Board members and Student Council parents, with a lunch and short assembly. Window displays showcased student work for those unable to visit.

Calvin Lee Earns North All Stars Bid

Comanche's standout halfback Calvin Lee was named to the North All-Stars for the Texas coaches school game in San Antonio this August. Lee set a high scoring Indian record with 242 carries for 1,660 net yards, earning multiple honors including All-State AA selection and area back of the year.
