Schools to Town Show Off Attract Visitors Across Week

Readers toured school displays in Baxter's Place and nearby shops as part of the “schools to town” effort. Local businesses offered specials and promotions including a Chev iracle Mile Contest with prizes, a remodel and loan feature, and theater listings at the Majestic and Bridges. Services and discounts at Higginbotham's, Durham's Pharmacy, and other outlets drew interest, while the tax assessor reminded about new vehicle plates due April 1.

Comancheans Injured in Post Car Wreck

Three Comanche Countians were injured in a head-on crash near Post Monday afternoon. Mrs. J V Carter Sr suffered a broken hip, her daughter Mrs Hulan Hughes and daughter in law Mrs Plez Carter sustained multiple injuries.

Girl Scouts Sponsor Dog Vaccination Campaign

Comanche County Girl Scout Troop No. 6 will sponsor a dog vaccination campaign at the Farm Building of the Comanche County Vocational School on Saturday March 12 starting at 12 30 pm. The charge is one dollar the medicine cost and Dr Jim Hallmark is donating services.

Proctor Man Pays 86 Year Old Debt With Treasury Note

Clarence Garner of Proctor paid part of an old claim against Mexico using a U S Treasury note for 3 71. The debt dates to cattle theft around Beaumont and was part of a 5 000 claim inherited from Claiborn Garner. Principal was 65 24 with 6 percent interest.

Death of Albert Gossett at Comanche marked by heart attack

Albert Garfield Gossett 74 of Lake Road Comanche was found dead in the yard Saturday evening after leaving for a walk. The physician cited heart attack as the cause. Funeral services were held March 7 at 4 p.m. at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev. Henry M Chambers officiating. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery with Lodge 1.0.C.F. assisting. Surviving are his wife Mary Ella Mooney Gossett and seven children including W A Gossett J E Gossett and Mrs Clint Barrett. Grandchildren listed include Kenneth and Billie Jo Gossett Angela Banandi and Johnnie Lou Jenkins. Dwaine Gossett preceded in death.

Indians Win Opening Track Meet of Season

The Comanche Indians won a triangular track meet with 70 points, De Leon 36, Eastland 13. Jack Pettit led with multiple wins and high point honors, Harold Price secured two firsts in discus and shot, Gaylord Ross took the 440, and Dean Sliger won the half mile. The Indians advance to the Indian Trail Relays at Gorman Saturday.

Rauhut Plans New Modern Gin Plant In County

Herman Rauhut announces plans to erect a new modern gin with work to start soon. He will travel to Dallas to inspect gin machinery and visit Texas plants for ideas. He notes cotton outlook improves with higher support prices while feed costs fall and urges farmers to plant full cotton allotments to avoid penalties next year.

Funeral Services At Big Lake For F. J. Cartwright

Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Big Lake for F. J. Cartwright 85 longtime Justice of Peace and lumber yard manager. He was struck by a hit-and-run driver last month and died four weeks after the accident. Survived by seven children including Mrs. Euell Arthur Comanche.
