Trench Silo Demonstration Planned at Williams Ranch

A trench silo demonstration will be held next Tuesday at T. J. Williams Ranch six miles south of Comanche. County Agent N E Scudder notes E R Eudaly Extension Service Dairy Specialist will discuss silage value and silo construction with dairymen and livestock producers attending from the courthouse at 2 15 PM and then visit the ranch.

Local Merchant Chas F Williams Dies in Comanche

Charles F Williams a longtime Comanche merchant died at 5 40 am Wednesday following illness. Funeral services were held at Indian Creek Church with Rev E M Scarlett and Rev H J Sanders officiating. Interment in Indian Creek Cemetery under the W O W. Lodge. Williams born February 17 1870 in Clarendon Alabama moved to Texas at 17 settling in Comanche. Survived by three children Lucille Jewey and Bo Williams a Texas Tech athletics manager, a brother Forest Williams and two sisters Mrs W C Evans and Mrs Lenna Wray of Alabama.

Rabbit drive planned at Taylor's Chapel next Tuesday

George S. Emert announces a community rabbit drive to start at 8 30 from Buckmaster farm just north of Taylor's Chapel church. The circuit ends at noon with a stew served. All residents are invited to attend and candidates are welcome.

Mass Meeting Of Milk Producers Here Saturday

A mass meeting in Comanche County is set for Saturday at 2 00 pm at the Court House. Hil ton Burks secretary of the Chamber of Commerce says interested milk producers should attend as four bulls will be placed in the county to be kept by neighborhoods free of charge through the Farmers Produce Co. and Chamber of Commerce with local costs limited to feeding and maintaining the animals.

Five County Singing Convention Set For Hamilton Sunday

The Five County Singing Convention will meet at the Hamilton County Courthouse for an all day event next Sunday. Chairman William B. Huggins urges all Comanche County singers to attend. The convention includes singing classes from Mills, Hamilton, Comanche, Brown and Erath Counties.

Cotton Referendum Passes in Comanche County by Wide Margin

A county wide cotton program referendum was approved by a 2 to 1 margin. Across Comanche County 665 ballots produced 459 in favor and 206 opposed. Strongest support appeared in Gustine with 99 yes to 51 no and Sidney with 49 yes to 16 no. Local totals show Comanche 162 for 90 against and De Leon 52 to 17. Sipe Springs stood at 26 to 18. Proctor recorded 71 yes 15 no.

Gustine Plans For Gymnasium

Gustine announces a project for a new gymnasium at the Gustine School. A voting date is not set yet as a committee finalizes details and aims to use native stone. The school plans fund events with sandwiches and plate lunches at a tennis and softball tournament to support the gym fund.

Comanche High School Gymnasium Dedication Night

The new $18,000 Comanche High School Gymnasium will be dedicated Thursday night of next week. Superintendent J D Bramlette announces an elaborate program with special numbers from each high school organization and music by the High School Band directed by Pat Howard. A well known Texas college coach is invited to speak and the entire city and school district are urged to attend.

Statistics show 92 men jailed in 1934 from eight counties of Comanche Trail Area for crimes, costing the state 188.19 each. 989 boys registered cost 4.92 each. non Scouts risk criminal odds of 1 in 40, Scouts 1 in 2400. Comanche Calf Earns Third at Fort Worth Show

Grand Champion calf owned by Buck Pittman of De Leon placed third in its class at the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show among a large Southwest entry. Comanche County premium calves averaged 9 cents per pound with strong profits reported by 4-H and FFA participants.

About 100 Lions and their ladies are expected at a group meeting banquet in the Mrs. George W Tate building on the square's northeast corner. Clubs from Comanche Hamilton Stephenville and Brownwood participate. Speakers include H E Roberson and Lion District Governor Tom Gilles.

Two Comanche men arrested for burglary in San Saba case

Jesse Lee Steele 16 and Gilbert Cleary 22, both of Comanche, were arrested by Sheriff Wid Spivey and Deputy W. P. St Clair on burglary charges at the request of San Saba officials. They allegedly burglarized a San Saba shop and took six pairs of boots. Steele is held in Comanche, Cleary in San Saba. Two boots were recovered in Brownwood, one pair bought by a shoe shop, the other by a barber.

Gustine Forms Farmers Marketing Association

A Gustine based Farmers Marketing Association is organized with a free market site near the business district where farmers will bring fruit vegetables watermelons for sale. A shed will be built for farmer convenience and the group is sponsored by local businessmen and city officials. H D Seeley leads the effort and aims to link with West Texas truckers to secure watermelon buyers.

Garment production reported for Comanche sewing rooms

Miss Ethel M. Wilson, County Project Superintendent, says 498 garments were made last month in Comanche and De Leon sewing rooms. Items include dresses shirts jumpers and overalls. quilts crafted from scrap fabric. Twenty-six workers are employed at both locations, earning 20 cents per hour or 1.40 for a seven hour day.

A rabbit drive will be held in the Gap community on March 22 starting at the home of Mrs. Lessie Tidmore, announced by Jim Millican. All are invited, especially candidates, with shells provided and plenty of dinner available.

Comanche to Host Interscholastic League Meet Weekend

Preliminary contests start this weekend in Comanche with tennis at Gustine for Class A and at Comanche for Class B. The county finals for Class C and the county title are set for March 25 in Comanche, while volleyball opens the new gym Friday at 10.00 and literary events peak Friday night with singing contests. Comanche aims to win the All-round Class A cup, currently held by De Leon. Last year scores: De Leon 306, Comyn 269, Comanche 237, Gustine 127. Sidney will also compete for Class A cup.

Dr. Leverett Hill attended the funeral of his cousin Ben Lovelace in Big Spring Monday. Lovelace, a former Comanche citizen, was a nephew of L. E. Grainger.

Energy Home Destroyed by Fire in Energy Community

The farm home of Rev. J. Robinson in the Energy community was destroyed by a noon fire last Thursday March 10. Neighbors helped save part of the household goods. no insurance was carried.

W B Dunlap former Comanche carpenter and contractor and brother in law of John Tate of Comanche died at Ballinger March 2 burial there March 3. Survived by widow Pannie Tate. Lived in Comanche many years, moved west in 1906. Attending funeral from Comanche included J F Tate J H Tate G Preston Tate J W Carter Jr Mrs E Stanton Mrs Merlin Stanton and Mrs Bow Stanton.
