Construction Of REA Lines To Start In Two Weeks
The Comanche Rural Electrification Association received a national authorization to begin building 250 miles of rural electric lines in Comanche County. Fuller Construction Company, Nevada Missouri, won the bid at $137,218.39 and starts in early April with about sixty miles staked. Local labor will comprise about 60 percent with wages from 30 to 50 cents per hour.

Two Youths Arrested For Station Robbery
Gus McMullin and Jimmie Bryant, two German youths, were arrested in German Saturday night by Sheriff Wid Spivey and Deputy Perry St. Clair of Comanche for the robbery of the Panhandle Service Station two weeks earlier. R. L. Bowman, proprietor, fired two shots at the fleeing burglars. One youth lost his hat bearing a German firm trademark. A peanut vending machine with a few pennies was the only loss. the machine was taken from the front of the building. McMullin paid a $20 fine on a misdemeanor. Bryant is serving his fine in Comanche jail.

Comanche County Sets Cotton Acreage at 27351
County Agent N. E. Scudder reports Comanche County has 27 351 acres set for cotton this year down from 27 461 in 1938 with only about 15 000 acres expected to be planted. Last year 1 021 of 2 345 permitted farmers grew cotton. this year about 2 040 are allowed, but likely half will plant. A good season and pest control could yield around a third bale per acre and higher prices for the crop according to A and M College guidance.

Charges Filed In De Leon Rape Case And Slashing
Ww. C. Dub Winkles, 28, of De Leon is charged with statutory rape of a sixteen year old girl. Clare Evans, father of a reputation, is charged with assault with intent to murder after slashing Winkles with a knife Friday night. Winkles died briefly, then survived to return home, and both cases bound over to the April grand jury.
