Longtime local merchants H. M. Vineyard and others sell Vineyard's Electric Appliance Store and Modern-Way Market to N. W. Levell of Fort Worth and W. C. Howell of Nocona. The new owners plan to move to Comanche and run Levell and Howell's Grocery and Hardware Store. Mrs Levell assists, and the couple have four sons and two daughters. Howell's family will join soon. both families attend church locally.

The Comanche County District Court grand jury completed a three day term reporting 11 felony indictments. They examined 17 witnesses and praised local law enforcement and civic cooperation. They urged continued public duty from citizens and strict action against offenders to protect the public.

Death of J T Hendrix a Comanche County farmer at 88
J T Hendrix known as Uncle Tom, a long time Comanche County resident, died at his Van Dyke home on March 9. Services were held at Zion Hill Baptist Church with burial in Zion Hill Cemetery. Born in Collin County in 1858, he married Annie Maner in 1880 and had two sons and three daughters. Surviving children include Bob Hendrix of Comanche and Will Hendrix of Comanche, Laula Hendrix of Collin County, Maggie Land and Pearster of Abilene, with fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He moved to Comanche County in 1889 and was a respected farmer.

Community gathers as Rev J G Lambrides begins his tenure at the First Baptist Church in Comanche. The service drew a large audience and the church notes the loss of George E Smith, a long time local resident, who died March 9 1946. Sunday's sermon titled The Poor Rich Man advances at 11 am with a deacon ordination service at 7 15 pm. Newly elected deacons are Robert L Eaton Bill Mewborn R W Brannan Floyd Prather and Tom Beene. The church continues its accessible sound system for those outside the building. Also St Pattee s Pattee event Friday at 8 pm for Young People and Jr Adult Training Union followed by Fellowship Hour after preaching.

Fire destroyed Ottie Cox’s rock veneer home in Sidney. The prosperous farmer suffered burns to his arms hands and face and is hospitalized in a German hospital for treatment. His sister Mrs Clarence Edwards of Comanche relayed the injuries.

George E. Smith Comanche Lawyer Dies at 71
George E. Smith 71 a prominent Comanche lawyer with 48 years of practice died Friday in Brownwood. Funeral at First Baptist Church Brownwood with many local and out of town attorneys attending. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery under Masonic Lodge supervision. He served as County Attorney twice and was active in Lions Club Knights of Pythias and local schools. He married Monroe Smith in 1899 and is survived by wife son George G. Smith and two grandchildren along with siblings and other relatives.

Sine Springs Man Killed in Accident
Paul Millwee of Sipe Springs died in a Rising Star automobile crash on February 27. Miss Mary Frances Fenwick suffered a severe head injury and was treated in Brownwood. Hubert Adams escaped with minor injuries. Millwee, 20, recently discharged from the navy, was driving when the vehicle overturned after being blinded by headlights and struck a light pole. Funeral services were held March 1 at Sipe Springs Baptist Church with Rev. H. D. Christian officiating. Interment followed at Sipe Springs Cemetery.
