County Wide Singing At Local Methodist Church In Comanche

Texas quartet singers headlined a county wide singing at First Methodist Church with groups such as Stamps Baxter Dallas National Quartet Fort Worth Colvin Brownwood and Eastland Clyde Fisher. Vernon Welch said additional groups would attend as well as invited audiences.

Hasse School Building Burns In Fire

Fire of unknown origin destroyed the Hasse School building late Monday afternoon. The concrete block structure and fixtures were a total loss. Classes have resumed in the gymnasium, a frame building on the school grounds.

Southwestern Trio Picked to Attend Washington Peanut Meeting

Three representatives of the Southwestern Peanut Association were chosen in Fort Worth to attend the Commodity Credit Corporation peanut section meeting in Washington on March 18. They are Dick Weekes Comanche Lee White Dublin and L E Ganey Abilene. They will advocate for growers and processors amid soaring prices and government support for the 1946 crop.

Locals Win Beattie Tournament in Beattie Independent Finals

Comanche All-Stars under Coach George Willis closed the 1945 46 season by beating Duster Beattie 28 17 in the Beattie Independent Team tournament final. They opened with a 62 21 win over Stephenville and beat German Independent 34 22 in the semifinal, finishing 17 3 for the season.

Mrs Nina E Wilkes Dies at Gustine

Nina E Wilkes 71 died at her home in Gustine March 5. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church Gustine with interment in Union Cemetery. She was born in Texas September 23, 1874, daughter of the late J D Miller.

Orchard Field Day Focuses on Spraying at Hugh O'Brien Orchard

The second in a series of orchard field days will be held March 14 at the Hugh O'Brien orchard near Sweetwater. Horticulturists and entomologists from A and M College will assist as spraying is stressed and the first worm spray may be applied if conditions allow. Field days will continue with thinning harvesting and packing and begin around 10:00 AM.

Atkinson to Open Dental Practice in Comanche Annex

Captain J. D. Atkinson, on terminal Army leave and former Abilene dentist, will open a dental office in the Comanche National Bank Building Annex. A Loyola University Dental School graduate, he served 32 months in the European Theatre and plans to relocate to Comanche once housing is found. He will set up equipment before practice begins.

Pat Cagle Buys Major Interest In State National Bank

Brownwood businessman Pat Cagle buys a major share of the State National Bank of Comanche and will become president and active manager. He will not move until after school term ends, commuting from Brownwood where he owns a home. Cagle, 40, is married to Oval Mitchell and has three children. He has a long career in education and business, including roles at Comanche and Brownwood schools and Coca Cola Bottling. He will replace E. E. Anthony, a longtime banking official and civic leader in Comanche.

Funeral Rites Held For M. I. Vineyard In Comanche

Funeral services were conducted at Oakwood Cemetery for Isaac Morton Vineyard known as Uncle Maud and Cousin. He died of a heart attack the day prior. Survivors include wife Mary E. Hall Vineyard, children James Bunk Vineyard Ester Lloyd Frank Vineyard Shorty Vineyard Kate Carpenter, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild, plus two brothers and a sister-in-law. He spent over fifty years in Comanche with a successful farming and mercantile career.
