Harmony Harmony was well represented at the minstrel show by the White Point Community Club Friday night. Several youths joined the after-show party hosted by Miss Christine Williams. Harmony residents traveled to Comanche for the Calf Show where local calves and lambs earned prizes. Dale Shoemaker and Tyson Phillips headed Sunday to the Houston Livestock Show to display prize calves. They plan to visit Galveston and other sights before returning home. Carl Thomas visited Brownywood where his brother lies in a hospital after a fall from a tree on the Holcomb farm. Mrs M E Owen and Miss Rena Owen saw Mrs M Say Shoemaker Saturday. Mrs Carl Thomas and children spent Sunday with Lindsey Thomas and family at Beard Hill. Z T Edwards was in Brownwood Monday. Mrs J M Edwards, newly back from Brooklyn, N Y, visited her sister Mrs J J Rogers.
Twelve teams accepted invitations to the Girls District Tournament to be held Friday and Saturday. Beattie High, undefeated in county play, is a top contender alongside Sidney Lamkin Gustine Sipe Springs and De Leon. John Tarleton Tarleton Decatur clash in conference action closes the season as Dublin High starts spring football drills.
A Senate committee reports favorably on a bill granting over one million dollars to rural school allotments for 1937 38. Hearings covered university budgets and an Experiment Station in west cross timber. The Lower Concho River Authority bill to aid flood control and water soil conservation advances in the House. Senate considers tax amendments for social security funding and mutual life insurance regulation passes.
Despite bad weather a Purvis cast presentation at this place Friday night attracted a large audience and audience enjoyment was noted. Many local residents were mentioned visiting relatives and attending services and events around town during the weekend.
Blanket Miss Sidney Richey of Fort Worth Mrs. Davie Boatwright and Miss Josephine Richey of Brown wood were guests of Dr. and Mrs. D. P. Cobb Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Blanton and family visited their daughter Mrs. Alton Mauldin in Grosvenor Sunday. Miss Leta Rotto of Fort Worth spent Sunday in the home of her.
A singing school class organized in the area meets Thursday nights and the second and fourth Sundays. Invitations are open to all. Weekend visitors include Kellum Peters with Fred Rogers, the Cottons of Rising Star with P A Cotton, Homer Trimble and others visiting Venable, Stark, and Neva.
Mrs Johnie Lawson of Abilene visits Mrs Nancy Griffin for a social gathering. Blanket presented a play at the gymnasium Friday night. Mr and Mrs Will Bradshaw and family of Gartmans View spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Boss Davis. Mr and Mrs Oscar McElroy hosted Fort Worth visitors over the weekend. Miss Doris Smallwood hosted a birthday party Saturday night.
