Cold weather helped buds and leaves. moisture in soil supports early growth. however last year's late April freeze hurt some growers and many orchards were neglected. Approximately 1000 acres of additional orchards planted this year, marking conservative but continued expansion in commercial planting.

Mrs. Claude Cox Dies Suddenly at Home in Lometa
Mrs. Addie Zoe Herr Cox died suddenly at her Lometa home Monday at 7 30 p m after a brief heart attack. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ with Elder A C Nance officiating and interment in Santa Anna cemetery. She was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Texas as a child, lived in Dallas and Lampasas County, and married Mr. Cox in October 1936 after a previous marriage to W T Collins. She was an active Church of Christ worker.

Prowlers Flee After Station Operator Fires On Them
Burglars attempting a break in at the Panhandle Service Station on Highway 10 were driven off when operator R L Bowman fired from inside the station. Bowman heard intruders and fired as they reached their car, believing he hit the vehicle at least once. The thieves pinched a peanut vending machine and four bottles of soda while fleeing. one hat was dropped in the getaway. Local police hold one hat and search for two or three suspects.
