Ernestine Reid daughter of Mr and Mrs J E Reid of Green's Creek died from a gunshot wound received early Thursday morning while others in the family were at breakfast A discharged shotgun was found nearby She was taken to Dublin hospital where she died Funeral services were held at Green's Creek Tuesday.

De Leon to Start Street Paving July First
Mayor F T Daniels announced at the Chamber of Commerce meeting that a WPA street paving project will begin July 1 in De Leon after completing the De Leon to Sipe Springs road. Work covers six blocks from Highway 81 Travelers Hotel to Faust Lumber Co area and includes paving a half mile of the Sipe Springs highway inside the city. Caliche topping and drainage structures are already in place with 20 foot topping on the Sipe Springs road and 60 foot street widths.

Comanche Route 3 Boy and Dog Win Fight With Rattler
Dale Burnett Cunningham, a 12 year old Route 3 boy, and his dog killed a large rattler with 16 to 25 rattles near his turkeys. The dog was bitten but is recovering. the boy plans to bring the rattlers to The Chief office on a future visit.

High way 10 surfacing near Comanche completed
Workers finished a months long hard surfacing project on Highway No 10 from Comanche west to the Brown County line. The road now runs from Comanche to San Angelo and east to Fort Worth. Hilton Burks of the Comanche Chamber of Commerce spoke in Austin to the Highway Commission for Highway 36 West from Comanche and received encouragement. Construction continues east from Comanche toward Gustine.

Beckham Granted New Trail in Zephyr Killing Case
Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin orders a new trial for Tol Beckham 65 of Zephyr after a prior conviction for the June 30 1936 killing of Raymond Thompson 23 of Zephyr. A 35th district court jury sentenced Beckham to more than 15 years and he remains in Brown County jail with no bond. The appeal also mentions R D Woods son in law of Beckham and under five years sentence in the same homicide.

Brunt Bruner suffered cuts to the head and Mrs Bruner a broken thumb when their car left the road and overturned Saturday night. They were returning from Dublin after attending a picture show. The son driving the vehicle was not hurt.

Van Dyke saw mill in Comanche County, run by Tommie Wilson and Earl Nabers, secured a 20 000 foot bridge timber contract from County Commissioner Ed Lightfoot of De Leon. F. E. Barnes, justice of the peace at Sipe Springs, has served as an office holder for 33 of the last 39 years. He began in 18 when Tom Thornton was sheriff of Comanche County, later serving 18 years as constable.
