Beattie Man Fatally Shot Friday at Home
Fifty year Beattie community resident John Perdue died Friday from gunshot wounds found near his residence. He had suffered illness in recent years and was reported to have low blood pressure. Survived by a wife three daughters and a son, funeral services were held at Comanche Church of Mr. Sharp De Leon with burial in Tay 1 Cemetery.

Taylor-Callahan To Vote Hiway 36 Bond Issue
Taylor Callahan Counties Road District No 7 voters on July 8 will decide on issuing 25000 dollars in bonds to purchase right of way for Highway 36. The district was created by a recent special legislative act and the Abilene Chamber of Commerce backs the measure. The bond vote is expected to pass with a large majority to hasten construction in Comanche County.

Heavy criminal docket set for July term of county court
An unusually large number of charges for criminal offenses have been filed in County Criminal Court by local officers. Charges include theft against two people, one for operating a bawdy house, two for unlawful sale of intoxicating liquor, and one for swindling with a worthless check. Most cases are expected to come up in the July term.

Four residents bring figs to The Chief office evidencing a bumper crop. E B Anthony describes a seven inch circumference fig. Neely Hicks reports seven inch long, six inch circumference fruit with 15 or 16 bushels expected from dozen trees. Jesse Edwards Callie Leach also show large figs from Comanche trees.

Largest Catfish Haul From Don Martin Lake Mexico
Brownwood fishermen R. D. Renfro Pat Cagle Roscoe Brooks and W. H. Thate return with 139 catfish weighing 7 to 20 pounds each after a four day trot-line trip to Don Martin Lake in Mexico. They claim to have caught more but had no room to bring them home.

Gore family buys Aztec Theatre in Grandview
Mr and Mrs M E Gore of Comanche purchase the Aztec Theatre at Grandview Johnson County about 12 miles southeast of Cleburne. The Aztec is a good motion picture show in a town of about 1000 people in the blank land belt. Gore has taken charge and the family will move next week.

New Delinquent Tax Law Stresses Installment Payments
Delinquent state and county taxes may be paid in partial installments under a new law effective July 1 1937. Taxpayers have twenty months to complete payments with ten monthly installments starting by September 1 1937. No payments under $10 will be accepted and the county tax assessor can provide further details. Many in the county are likely to use the installment option to settle overdue taxes.

Elbert Adams a prominent Comanche County farmer known in the Fleming community died at home in Gustine Friday night after a two year illness. He was 47 and survived by his wife Annie Tobby and six children Irby Wayne Gail Christine Winnie Mae and Elbert Jr. Funeral services were held Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery with ministers from local churches officiating.

Sidney Man Killed as Binder Team Runs Away
T D Parson 51 a Sidney farmer and school board member died when his binder horse team bolted in a Comanche field. George and two Parson boys helped lift the implement. Parson jumped but was entangled and crushed. Funeral at Sidney Baptist Church with large attendance and numerous pallbearers.

Two Men Drown In Lake Brownwood Search After Boat Accident
Leo Newby a 32 year old Coca Cola Bottling Co employee and Herschel Mills a 31 year old Brownwood plumber drowned when their row boat sank near Jim Ned bridge on the Cross Cut Brownwood road. Miss Nellie Powell 17 swam to shore and Mills aided her before disappearing with Newby. Bodies recovered after a twenty hour search by company officials firemen and volunteers.
