New York and Comanche County see a rise in home ownership as 65.2 percent of year round housing are owner occupied. The Census of Housing shows 3,368 owner occupied homes out of 8,167 total. Median price climbs to 4000 from 1000 in 1960, boosting total home worth to 24.923 million.

Open House At Local Post Office July 1

The inauguration of the new United States Postal Service on July 1 will be celebrated with open house events in Washington and in post offices across the region. Postmaster Jim Carpenter invites all residents to visit their local post office on July 1 for a souvenir envelope bearing old and new insignia. First Day Covers will be available in limited numbers for the cost of an 8c stamp, stamped and canceled in advance. A photographic display of Postal Service jobs will educate the public about how mail users can assist. Dedication in Washington will be hosted by Postmaster General Blount with members of Congress and former postmasters general among the guests. For mailing questions, call 356 5263.

Mrs Betty Conway attends Texas County Clerks session

Mrs Betty Conway, a popular Comanche County official, attended a statewide convention of Texas county clerks in Dallas last week.

Rodeo Capped Prices and Special Acts Planned

Admission for the three rodeo performances will be 1.50 with 50 cents for children. Parking on the west grounds will be 5 dollars for all three nights or 2 dollars per show. Concessions by County 4-H Clubs. programs numbered by 4-H members. A 25 dollar US Savings Bond prize will be awarded each night. Allan Cartwright will present a trick act at all three performances.

Royal King the Quarter Horse legend from Llano

Royal King died after a long life in the Llano ranch scene. Earl Albins bought him in 1944 for 259 dollars, with partner Jack Whiteside, and the stallion soon proved his value by breeding mares and competing across Texas. The 1970 Quarter Horse Journal praised him as a premier sire and performer with ROMs and AQHA honors.

Peanut Princess Contest Set for July 10 in Comanche

Comanche Jaycees announce the Peanut Princess contest at Comanche High School Auditorium starting at 6 30 p m on July 10. Entrants must be 17 to 21 by August 13 1971 and residents of Comanche County with sponsor support. Deadline June 30. winners advance to Eastland for the Texas Peanut Queen contest in August.

Ross To Attend Convention In Detroit June 26

Miss Marguerite Ross a teacher in the Comanche Public Schools is set to join the Texas delegation at the 109th annual National Education Association convention in Detroit Michigan from June 26 to July 2. The Texas group includes state officers Archie Roberts president Patsy Duncan president elect and Jewell Harris immediate past president. Elliot L Richardson U S secretary of health education and welfare will speak. Discussions will cover performance contracting aid to non public schools student drug abuse educational priorities and school integration.

Decision Pending in School Tax Suit

District Judge Byron Mc Clellan heard witness testimony and lawyer statements in a long running dispute between 21 taxpayers and the Comanche Independent School District Board of Trustees and Tax Board of Equalization. The judge delayed ruling on a permanent injunction over 1970 tax assessments while briefs are filed within 25 days.

Ronnie Boston Named President Of Comanche Jaycees

Ronnie Boston was elected president of the Comanche Jaycees at a June 21 board meeting. He succeeds Dr. Richard T. Lane who resigned after purchasing Dr. Jack Ragsdale’s Brady ophthalmic business. Boston has long served in Jaycees roles and is married to Sandy, active in the Wives Club. Lane plans to leave Comanche after July 1. Boston works for Foil Conservat Service in Comanche, arriving from Weatherford in February 1969.
