Barnes Enters 1972 Texas Governor Race

Lt. Governor Ben Barnes, 33, announced at the State Capitol his decision to run for Governor of Texas in 1972. He outlined a record of public service as Speaker of the House and Lt. Governor and urged leadership to reform welfare, curb crime, and modernize state finances and government.

Comanche Schools Hire Special Education Supervisor for 1971 72

Comanche Public School and five area schools hire Vernal J. Kirg age 82 of Gunnison Colorado as Supervisor of Special Education for 971 72. He will split duties one half day daily coordinating the Comanche ISD program and spend another time at Sidney Gustine De Leon Rising Star and Cross Plains. He is a ACU graduate with a masters in special education from Western State College of Gunnison and comes from Gunnison where he led the special education program. The district also hired Barbara Evans as a primary teacher and A. E. Boyd Jr. as School Counselor for 1971 72. Boyd holds degrees from Texas A&M and will study guidance at A&M during summer. Mrs Evans, married with Tarleton student husband, comes from Tarleton State background. Mr Boyd’s vocational agriculture work includes Young Farmer Chapter and On the Job Co Op Training with 105 boys in a diversified agriculture program. Mrs Boyd and her husband plan to relocate to Comanche in August.

Evening Lions Club to Install New Officers

The Evening Lions Club will officially install its newly elected officers on Tuesday night June 22 at 6 30 p.m. Lion Jack McCullough of Stephenville will serve as installing officer. The meeting, at the Golden Arrow Cafeteria, expects attendance to support the new officers for the coming Lions year.

Comanche Roping Club Rodeo Parade and Contest Scheduled

The Coman che Children's Service office seeks foster homes for its Protective Service program in Comanche and surrounding counties. The Children’s Service Division of the Department of Public Welfare provides social work for children in need of protection and families facing adjustment difficulties.
