Four Churches Plan Summer Crusade Opening

A four church Summer Crusade starts Sunday July 1 with evening services at First United Methodist Church led by Rev H Grady James of First Presbyterian Church. Services at 7 pm feature music by Methodist Youth Choir directed by Terry Price. Youth social in Fellowship Hall. adults mingle in the parish lounge with refreshments by the Women’s Society of Christian Service. New Postal Rates Set for International Mail

Postmaster Jim Carpenter announces July 1 changes in international mail rates. Surface mail to Canada and Mexico rises to eight cents per ounce up to 12 ounces, other countries 15 cents first ounce and 26 cents per ounce over one up to two. Air letter rates: Canada and Mexico 11 cents per ounce. Central and South America and Caribbean 17 cents per half ounce. all other countries 21 cents per half ounce.

Texans to Pay More Taxes on July 1st

Texans will face higher costs as new state taxes take effect July 1 1971 including an increase in general sales tax from 3 to 4 percent and motor vehicle sales tax from 3 to 4 percent. The cigarette tax rises from 5 to 18 cents per pack and new taxes apply to motor vehicle rentals beer liquor and corporate franchise tax.

Medicare Premium Increase To Cover Doctor Costs

The monthly Medicare doctor insurance premium rises starting July as part of an annual cost review. Brownwood Social Security manager Glen McNatt says the increase is necessary. July 3 checks will deduct 5.60 instead of 5.30. About 19.5 million people aged 65 plus are enrolled, with premiums covering half the protection cost and the rest funded by general revenues.
