One is Wounded One is Charged

A Friday night Lamkin disturbance near the Leon River bridge left Gaylon Jones with a flesh wound in the upper left arm from a bullet fired from a pistol. H C Blackshear surrendered and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, released on a $5,000 bond, and the case may go before a grand jury in October.

Comanche Rodeo Parade Opens Three Night Kickoff

A 6:30 p m parade launches Comanche 3rd Annual Amateur Rodeo at the rodeo grounds on Brownwood highway with eight events per night including Bare back Riding Calf Roping and Bull Riding. Shows run Thursday to Saturday nights at 8:30 p m admission is 2 for adults and 1 for children under 12.

Comanche County shows stronger consumer spending driven by higher incomes. Local food purchases topped $7.89 million with 30 percent of dollars going to take home food, while cars and related goods totaled $5.70 million and general merchandise $1.29 million.

Thrips are causing concern in Comanche County peanuts this year. They feed in leaf terminals, causing dwarfing and malformation. Early planting insecticide sprays control thrips but often do not boost yields. Readers are urged to inspect fields for small orange to black insects in new growth before applying treatment.

Rev Bruce Baker Appointed Pastor for Comanche Church

Rev Bruce Baker was named pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Comanche at the 1977 Central Texas Conference session in Waco. He is a Texas Wesleyan College and SMU Perkins School of Theology graduate with a long history in Evant Glen Rose Woodway Midlothian and Round Rock churches and County mental health work.
