Comanche FFA Rodeo Dates Set for July Nights

The Comanche FFA Rodeo at Comanche Roping Club Arena runs July 7 8 and 9 at 8 p.m. Students and graduates from spring 77 may enter. Events include Bareback bronc riding, roping, barrel races, steer riding and pole bending with belt buckles awarded at the final show. Admission is 125 for adults and 75 for students.

City Names Auditor Ronald Young Appointed At June Meeting

Ronald Young CPA was named City Auditor at the June 13 city council meeting. He moved to Comanche in 1976 and maintains offices in the Heartland Building. A 1967 accounting veteran with a 1972 CPA certification, Young has audited Grand Prairie and Arlington ISDs plus various manufacturing and retail firms. He and his parents own land in Hasse and reside nearby, while he participates in multiple professional and civic groups.

Hill to Visit Comanche County in July Campaign Stop

Texas Attorney General John Hill is slated to visit Comanche County on Thursday July 7 as he weighs a Governors run. Texas Governor urges safe drives for Fourth of July weekend

Governor Dolph Briscoe and Traffic Safety Rep Ken Nevil warn that the July holiday weekend will bring heavy travel and a high death toll. They urge Texans to drive with caution, leave early, limit alcohol, moderate speed, and stay alert to reduce fatalities. Interstate crashes are up 45 percent from last year.

Grand jury to shift to quarterly sessions in 220th District

Sheriff W G Garman said District Judge Andy Campbell plans quarterly grand jury sessions in Bosque Comanche and Hamilton counties of the 220th Judicial District. Campbell aims to empanel Comanche County’s grand jury on the second Monday in August to start the new system.

County reforms aim to speed trials with quarterly juries

Officials expect the new quarterly grand jury panels to reduce backlogs and speed up trials. Previously panels were drawn twice yearly in March and October in Comanche County, with Sheriff Garman noting Judge Campbell will order the change.

Parade Winners Named in Comanche Rodeo Day Festivities

Rain failed to dampen a large Comanche crowd as fourteen business floats seven civic floats and many horses pets and bicycles paraded through Comanche square. Winners include Comanche County 4-H Leaders Higginbothams Western Hills Nursing Home and Pedro Westmoreland in old cars with Jill Miller rodeo queen and runners up noted.
