Red Cross Life Saving Course Opens in Comanche

The Junior and Senior Red Cross Life Saving Course at Lake Eanes Pool, Comanche, begins Monday June 20. Eligible youths 12 to 15 in grades 7 to 10 may pursue Junior certificates, while those 16 or in grade 11 may seek Senior certificates. Qualified students gain access to further Water Safety Aid instruction starting July 11 and pool admission is free. Weekly effort seeks church attendance reports from area Sunday schools. Superintendents are asked to bring or call in figures to 210 each week after contacting all churches.

Interest Up in Kiev Here Nights of July

Plans are underway for a Comanche Amateur Rodeo on July 7 8 and 9 with Ikey Pipes of the Comanche Roping Club leading sponsors. The Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club co sponsor a July 7 parade at 5 pm with parade chairman Jimmy Carpenter. Prizes will be awarded, and local civic groups are urged to prepare entries. The 1954 rodeo drew near capacity crowds and featured tough stock from Lloyd Woodley. Events include bareback bronc wild horse racing cow milking girls barrel racing calf roping boys calf riding and Brahma bull riding. Two top rodeo clowns will attend.

Methodist Ladies Stage Rummage Sale Next Week

The Ladies of the First Methodist Church will stage a rummage sale Friday and Saturday June 24 25 in the Armstrong Cox Building on the north side of the square. We will have plenty of good clothing and other articles, say organizers.

Comanche County Endures Heavy Rain and Wind Damage

Comanche County faced rainfall up to 22 inches with hail and damaging winds Tuesday and Wednesday. City measurements show 2.03 inches Tuesday and 51 inches Wednesday. Newburg reports 3.3 inches. Lakes Eanes and Comanche rose sharply, with spillway distances narrowing. Lake Comanche rose 12 inches more to within six feet of its spillway. Wind damaged television towers, plate glass, roofs, and hangars at the Comanche airport. De Leon saw the heaviest damage Wednesday night.

Polo Team Drives to Weatherford for Season Opener

Comanche Palmetto Polo club journeys to Weatherford next Wednesday night for their first game of the season. Coached by Joe Waring and George Willis, the team has practiced two months at the local rodeo grounds. Starting lineup against Weatherford lists E J McDougal as goalie, Lonnie McDougal and Bally Robertson as guards, Donnie McDougal at center, Ikey Pipes at forward, with Joe Henderson, Jack Riley, and Joe Waring also in action.
