Favorable Hearing on Establishing Comanche Soil District

About forty farmers and local business leaders attended a hearing in the District Courtroom to decide if an election should be held to form a soil conservation district in the southern part of Comanche County. State official Howard Goss explained the program and C M Caraway outlined local support. with unanimous votes, election action is expected later this summer after July Soil Conservation Board guidance.

Clean-Up Drive Set in Comanche For June 23-28

Mayor Fane Waldrop announces Comanche will hold a clean-up week from June 23 to 28. City officers note this first drive since April aims to clear non-burnable trash along curbs for free pickup, with health officials stressing clean premises help prevent mosquitoes and disease such as polio and typhus. Mrs. B. J. Pittman Dies in De Leon Funeral Rites

Funeral services for Mrs. B. J. Pittman of De Leon were held May 28 at the First Baptist Church. She died May 26 after a short illness at age 71. Survived by husband B. J. Pittman, Jr. of Dallas, R. D. Pittman of Washington D. C., daughter Phyllis Evans of De Leon, two grandchildren, a brother W. M. Davis, and a sister S. W. Kenward. Burial in De Leon Cemetery with Higginbotham Bros. in charge.

Funeral Rites Held For James L. Brown

Funeral rites for James L. Bill Brown of Fort Worth were held Thursday at White Point Church with Rev. J. D. Smoot in charge. Interment followed in White Point Cemetery. Brown, 52, son of Mrs. D. A. Brown, grew up near White Point after moving to Comanche County with his parents. He worked at Coleman's Bakery Higginbotham Bros. & Company and Chief Dry Cleaners before moving to Fort Worth, where he died of a heart attack. He leaves his mother two brothers D. Brown and Augustus Brown and a sister Mrs. Zett Edwards, all of Comanche.

Death claims C. L. Burt at age 60 in Lamkin

Clarence L. Burt 60, longtime Lamkin resident and farmer in Comanche County, died Friday June 6 at a Temple hospital after a three week illness and brain operation. Funeral services were held at the Lamkin Methodist Church Sunday June 8 at 3 p.m. Interment Toliver Cemetery. Teachers Regain Top Place In Softball Race

Higginbotham s leaders were swept by the Teachers and by Durham Peanut, dropping from first to sixth as league play reached a new high. The VFW beat Jimmy Marshall Whitey Morris in 10 4, Arthur Chevrolet toppled the Vocational 17 4, and Durham Peanut improved with an 8 3 win over RBA. An all star girls game saw Gorman edge the town 8 7 in eight innings. Game nights ahead include Durham versus Vocational and Teachers versus High School.

Minister J. W. Whitefield Accepts Coleman Pastorate

Rev. J. W. Whitefield who served 19 months at Comanche’s First Methodist Church has accepted the pastorate at Coleman’s First Methodist Church. Coleman’s church is among the district’s largest with 800 members and a salary above 4500 dollars. Whitefield, formerly of Midlothian, was praised for strong sermons and living up to his preaching, earning broad local support.
