Two Local Youths Start Training At Randolph Field Soon

Comanche youths James Slider and Howell McCorkie signed up to begin training at Randolph Field late this summer. McCorkie, June Texas A M College graduate, passed physicals at College Station last month for U S Air Corps entry. Slider just finished his second year at North Texas State Teachers College and has qualified for Randolph. Both plan to enter in August.

Sipe Springs Youth Writes of Army Life

Pvt. Hardwick Wayne Thomas of Sipe Springs has been transferred to Barksdale Field Shreveport Louisiana. He volunteered March 3 1941 and attends the Air Corps Technical School. He praises military life and urges others to join the air corps.

City to enforce traffic rules in Comanche

Comanche plans new traffic regulations and a fine system to curb violations. A marshal will issue traffic violation cards for offenses such as running stop signs and red lights, parking out of lines, speeding, and blocking traffic. City installs a traffic light at the square and plans another on Highway 10 to slow traffic and reduce hazards. The State Highway Department urges proper highway parking and safety. Petroleum refining is noted as Texas' largest manufacturing industry at 41 percent.

Teachers Elected At Sipe Springs

At a Board of Education meeting in Sipe Springs Miss Skipping of Zephyr and Miss Virginia Lacy were elected for the upcoming term. Miss Skipping, a Home Economics teacher, is highly recommended from Denton Teachers College and Brownwood Daniel Baker. Miss Lacy, with a Daniel Baker degree, will teach third and fourth grades and follow her sisters' example of teaching excellence. Misses Margaret and Grace Lacy teach in Hamilton County.
