Miss Alice Robertson of Comanche County built a small flower operation from a pansy seed starting in 1936. What began with hand fertilizer and a wheelbarrow grew into Texas’ top mail order and local bloom supplier with rising irrigation costs and expansion plans. Her pansies now drive significant income as trucks from Fort Worth and Dallas visit Robertson Flower Farm near Co nage three miles north of Comanche.

Homecoming at Proctor Set for Sunday June 22

Proctor Come ry Association announces a homecoming on Sunday June 22 inviting all residents and former locals. Local merchant returns from wholesale market

Sol Hoffman of Hoffmans Department Store has returned from Dallas where he purchased staple goods for the store. He notes shortages in wholesale markets and says the government holds prior purchase rights. Hoffman was able to buy many items early to ensure fall delivery.

Hamilton Beats Comanche 7-3 in 1941 baseball clash

Hamilton downed Comanche 7-3 before a large Sunday crowd. Comanche committed eleven errors while Hamilton tallied three late inning runs to seal the win. An exhibition game between Army units Company H and Company F preceded the main contest with an 8-0 score. Comanche next faces Purves on Sunday.

Comanche County voters approve wheat marketing quotas by 89.3 percent enabling quotas for the 1941 crop in Texas and nationwide. Marketing cards identify penalty free wheat sales with penalties of 49 cents per bushel for noncompliant transfers. All Day Singing At Hasse Sunday

An all day singing event is planned at Hasse on Sunday with organizers urging singers and music lovers to arrive early bring lunch and song books according to the committee.

Old Folk Singing Sunday at Beattie

The Annual Old Folk Singing Convention will be held at Beattie Sunday, June 15. A regular singing for the young people will be held in the afternoon. At noon there will be a basket dinner and an old fashioned stew. Herrell Kelley, secretary of the convention, invites all singers to Beattie and to bring plenty of song books. The old folks singing has shifted from four note to older songs.

Big Crowd Attends County Singing at Comanche Church

A large audience filled the Methodist Church in Comanche Sunday night for the county wide singing convention led by Roy Little and H E Spears. A county speaker system carried the program to overflow crowds outside the building with quartets and classes from Dublin Stephenville Goldthwaite Mozelle Brownwood Clairette and many local communities participating.

Water around Lake Eanes spillway rises after heavy rain

Heavy Tuesday rain caused a sharp rise in Lake Eanes near Comanche with water around the spillway about 12 to 14 inches deep on Wednesday afternoon. Mayor Clyde House reported the level, noting the lake has supplied the 24,000 men of the Blue Army encamped nearby for two weeks.

Mass Meeting on Local Rodeo Set for Monday

A joint meeting is planned for Monday night at the high school gym to organize the local rodeo festival. The town-wide event will run July 3 to 5 with stock, an orchestra, and the festival theme song by Sol Hoffman.

City Cuts Summer Water Rates For Gardens And Lawns

The City Council approved a lower summer water rate to aid households. The minimum remains $1.00 for 3000 gallons with excess at 15 cents per thousand. A 10000 gallon use drops from $2.75 to $2.05, saving 70 cents.

Fred P. Mika of the Soil Conservation Service will head the Upper Leon Soil Conservation District based in De Leon. He previously served as camp conservationist for the Fourth Street Veterans SCS camp in Brownwood before its move to Coleman.

Comanche Nine To Play Purves Here Sunday

Manager John Carpenter's Comanche nine meets W. W. Bruners Purves nine Sunday at 3 in the afternoon. The two teams provided top games last season and a large crowd is expected at the Comanche Grammar School grounds. No admission will be charged.

Principal Virgil Chaffin Undergoes Operation

Virgil Chaffin principal of Comanche High School underwent an operation at a Temple hospital Tuesday and is reported to be in a rather serious condition. He had been ill for some time and was taken to Temple the latter part of last week.
