Nineteen Cars Cattle Shipped From San Angelo Ranch

Sam Ross of San Angelo shipped 19 cars of cattle from his ranch near San Angelo to Bryson Ranch west of town for pasturage. It is the largest cattle shipment into Comanche county in several years, with grass good here while drier areas to the west suffer.

Cotton Acreage Shows Big Loss

A New York City cotton firm dated May 25 reports a 9.3 percent decline in U S cotton acreage. Texas acreage is listed at 17 608 000 compared with 19 140 000 in 1926. The Mississippi Flood area is being planted as waters recede.

Gas Tax Bring State Millions In April Revenue

State comptroller S R Terrell reports April gas tax revenue at 1 340 000, up from 392 466 a year earlier. Tax rate tripled from one to three cents. consumption rose. The 3 cent rate reverts to 2 cents in September 1928. Legislation to perpetuate the three cent tax failed.

Sweet potato acreage in county swells near 400 acres

County Agent Barton reports this year's sweet potato crop will total about 400 acres, up from 300. Over 500 acres have been planted and work will continue through early July. Planting surged after weekend rains, with heavy activity in Peattie Suez Indian Creek Fairview and the sandy belt north of town. Porto Rico yam is the leading variety, with early plantings ready to harvest by next month and production lasting until frost.
