Roy Lee 29 of Lovington New Mexico, missing after leaving Lovington Tuesday to attend a Denton college commencement, was found Monday in a local cafe by Sheriff Dwight Brightman. He said he fished on the San Saba river and wired his wife he would travel to Denton. Police had worried about foul play as Abilene telegrams reported his absence.

Will Fritts death sentence for the murder of D. W. Hamilton was affirmed by the Court of Criminal Appeals. He was tried in Kent county on a change of venue after a Haswell county conviction, and a companion case in Jones county awarded a life term for the murder of Ear Hamilton. The killings followed an ill feeling linked to a liquor case witness. The elder Hamilton was shot October 24, 1928.
A twelve room residence owned by the Mrs M A Barnes Estate was burned Tuesday near midnight in Comanche. The fire origin is unknown and the home, built half a century ago, was a show place before the death of Mrs Barnes a week earlier. Insurance covered part of the loss and firemen saved outbuildings. An old live oak behind the yard recalls the town’s history.
Four men were hospitalized in Kilgore Texas after the National Securities Company No 1 Knowles oil well near the business district caught fire and burned for hours. Two explosions preceded the blaze as electricity failed at the water plant, with the fire finally extinguished by chemicals. Loss estimated at 20000 dollars. R G Huffman 38 of Hasse expected to be gravely injured. others to recover.
Chester McGlothlin will open a new tailor shop Monday in the J F Tate building on the South Side of the square. Remodeling began Monday and a full line of modern machinery is being installed. McGlothlin started as a tailor in Comanche six years ago with Happy Edwards and recently ran the Yellow Jacket Tailor Shop in Brownwood.
Mrs. A. E. Harrell and her son Charles Edward depart this week for Kine County to spend the summer.
Fifty seven dollars and a few cents remained in the American Legion Band treasury after the group disbanded. Members in Comanche agreed to apply the balance to park work aimed at providing relief to unemployment by hiring workers for park improvements.
An all afternoon checker tournament ended in a draw Wednesday at six oclock at Massingill s Barber Shop. Chambers of May and Hulsey of Stephen Vile shared the divided honors after a 12 game final with four wins each and four draws. Dr Bowden of May was runner up after eliminating Tom Baxter of Stephenville.
Elizabeth Temple will lead five demonstrations under the County Live at Home program with County Agent J A Barton. Sessions run 10:00 am Monday Hass, 10:00 am Tuesday Gustine, 10:00 am Wednesday Robinson Springs, 1:00 pm Thursday Nescore home of Mrs W H Burton, and Friday at Henry Jaynes Cross Roads home. Topics include budgeting, insect control, dairying, canning, storing and drying garden products, and homemaker guidance.
The annual Memorial Services for the Firemen will be held at the Baptist Church Sunday May 14 in the evening. Rev Gordon Barrett will preach the Memorial sermon according to Fire Chief R and Graham.
