Comanche Normal Opens with One Hundred Enrollees
The Comanche Normal opened Monday at the high school with about one hundred students from Erath Brown Eastland Comanche Haskell and Hamilton counties. The six week session runs until July 17. Pioneer Gene Welch Dies at 81 West of Town
Old Pioneer Gene J. W. Welch aged 81 died Tuesday night at his home west of town. Services were held Wednesday at 4 PM in Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. John Powers of Brownwood officiating. Pallbearers included Jack Wright Capt. J D Bonner C P St Clair J D Waring Eugene Greer EF W Harris John Cunningham Jno P Hoff and J B Chilton. He came from California early and lived here over 40 years. He is survived by his wife two daughters Mrs Ed Blue and Mrs P D Nesmith of this city and a son in New Mexico.

Mrs Y L Jones among train wreck injuries near Abilene
Word reached this city Sunday that Mrs Y L Jones of Spur sister of Mesdames P S Jair and S J Thomas suffered injuries in a wreck on the Whita Valley road between Hamlin and Abilene when a train ran into a cloud burst at Mulberry creek and coaches overturned. Mrs Jones was taken to Dallas but later reports say injuries are not serious though she is painfully cut about the face. President Sandifer of Simmons College Abilene sustained a crushed knee and several others were badly hurt. The train met high water and backed out, cars overturning. Mrs Jones is also sister of Dr Sellars, formerly of Comanche now in Fort Worth.
