The Comanche Chamber of Commerce arranges connections between berry sellers and buyers, aiding marketing and hauling leads to a canning plant in Dallas. Secretary Hilton Burks highlights efforts to improve local marketing and urges growers to list products and visit the chamber for help with selling at no cost.
One of the best motion pictures of the year will be shown at the New Majestic Theatre Monday and Tuesday nights. Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Carter Jr present Earl Flynn and Anta Louise in Green Light a Warner picture by Frank Borzage and Cosmopolitan Production with music by Max Steiner. Margaret Lindsay and Sir Cedrick Hardwicke also appear in the play.
Mrs. M. E. Gore and Napoleon Thomas won $100 Longines diamond wrist watches in a NBC radio program promotion. Gore is the first Texas winner, Thomas the first salesman. fifty watches are awarded weekly until the June 18 close. Gore keeps her slogan secret. Thomas aided by cooperation.
The Biggs softball squad regained league leadership by beating the Higginbotham team after a 17 to 3 upset loss to Dudleys last Friday. New Baker Boys formed this week with Charlie Marshall as manager and 15 players listed. league teams include Higginbotham Fagan Dudley and WwW.
John Tidmore 68 a Gap farmer died after going out to check his cow during rain and dying shortly after being helped inside by his wife Funeral services were held at Stage Creek. He is survived by his widow a brother H M Tidmore of Runnels County and brothers Fred and Bob Tidmore of Gap Comanche attendees included Mr and Mrs C F Denny Mrs E E Denny and Dr and Mrs J O Lane
One of the year s most interesting programs will be presented tonight at the new Downing Community Hall. The Rippetoe Quartette and the Bluebonnet Singers of Stephenville perform with a small admission for a community fund.
Creamer Methodist Church will hold Sunday afternoon services on June 6 at 3 o'clock with Pastor Rev. Call in charge. A full attendance of members is desired and others are cordially invited to attend. Committee.
Johnnie McGuire, 3, of Comanche, is in a Brownwood hospital after a 1937 Chevrolet sedan ran over him on South Main Street in front of his father's drug store about 3:00 PM Saturday. Driver C F Wakefield of Ponder did not stop. he was traced after the license number was reported.
Observers anticipate a flurry of political maneuvers in Texas in 1938. The gubernatorial race may feature Attorney General William C. McCraw and Railroad Commissioner Ernest O. Thompson with several darkhorses like Rep. Clarence Farmer and Elliott Roosevelt considering runs. Rumors place John Wood and possibly Gen. Robert Lee Bobbitt in the mix, while discussions swirl around Ed Clark for governor and other statewide posts.
An all day singing is set for Sidney with invitations mailed to state special singers. L G Stewart invites readers to bring books and friends, packs lunch on the grounds, and help feed a large anticipated crowd as Sidney once was noted for.
Miss Minnie Cunningham in charge announces start of summer school at Comanche High School on Monday. Students may take advanced work or special study to finish courses left incomplete last session. Mr and Mrs Jim Eanes Reese will teach Grammar School students at the High School building.
At a Lions Club district meeting in Brownwood Sammy Waisman of Comanche was elected District Secretary and R. W. Davidson of Brownwood was chosen President. The next district meeting was set for Stephenville with Waisman and Karl Shock as Comanche representatives. the session was addressed by the District Governor from Sweetwater.
Tolbert Patterson en route to Star from Austin where he attends a legislature session was in an auto wreck near Lampasas. He swerved into a ditch to dodge a fast approaching car, likely saving his life, while the other driver may need driving lessons. Patterson's new car was badly damaged. he continued to Star to address high school seniors.
The standings list 963 Biges 666 Fagan 14 3 and 571 Higg. Bros. 7 4 3 with team records for Dudley 6 3 3 500 W. O. W. 7 1 6. Results show Dudley defeating Biges 17 to 3 on Friday May 28 and other rain or tie outcomes from May 31 to June 3. June 4 to 10 outline upcoming games including Fagan vs Biggs and W O W vs Dudley with Higginbotham facing Fagan June 10.
State press men gather in Brownwood for the 58th Texas Press Association convention June 10 to 12 with tours, floor show, and Lake Brownwood boat trip. W. A. Adair is the oldest living past president, with Sam P. Harden as long-serving secretary since 1908.
Joseph Cowan has been elected principal of the Fairview School for next year. He is a Clifton High School graduate, studied four years at the University of Texas, and served as enrolling clerk for the Texas Legislature. He is now in Comanche with his parents.
A two week revival at the local Baptist Church is underway with Rev. A Edwin Wilston preaching. The event is part of a Texas wide evangelistic campaign by the Baptist denomination aiming to hold a revival in every church in Texas within three months.
The Service Drug Store owned by Clarence Huett won a prize for leading seven states in hosiery sales for towns of 4500 population during the year ending June 1. It marks the second such prize in three years. The store also led in Frigidaire sales for towns under five thousand in the past month.
Comanche County 4 H Club members totaling 75 were invited to District 7 Encampment at Lake Brownwood next week. About 25 to 30 boys planned to attend with several named communities involved.
Special services conducted by the young people will be held at the evening hour at the local Methodist Church. Rev Charles H Cole pastor announces the event with special music and a Bangs district director will give the principal address. Young people from De Leon Gustine and Blanket are invited to attend.
