In College Station June 1 Stag Creek in Comanche County earned second prize of 400 dollars in the Texas Community Improvement Program. Shady Grove won 500 dollars for top progress, Stillman third, as 214 Texas rural communities competed and 6 800 dollars in prizes were awarded by sponsoring electric utilities.

Tucker Buys Owl Drug From Parents in Comanche Move

Jerry Tucker purchased Owl Drug and Confectionery from J. W. Tucker and Mrs. Tucker. The family moved from Arlington to Comanche and reside at Keele Addition off West Wright Avenue. The Owl provides Western Union, taxi service, and bus station.

Summer Baseball Openers Re-Set For Tuesday Night

Rain postponed the opening of the 1960 Comanche Summer Baseball Program and rescheduled weekend games due to the Junior Rodeo. Opening league play starts Tuesday with Gustine vs Dudley’s in Little League followed by Arthur’s Hot Rods vs Blanket in Babe Ruth.

Summer Youth Program Begins Next Week For Boys

Ray Smith the Summer Youth Director announces a city program for ages 8 to 15 starting next week. Boys 12 to 15 register Monday at 9 at CHS Gym, while 8 to 11 register Tuesday at 9. They should bring baseball gloves as fundamentals begin the first two weeks. On Friday June 10 all boys meet at 9 at the City Swimming Pool for swimming.

Absentee Votes Cast In Second Primary

A total of 57 ballots were cast by absentee voters in the Democratic primary run off as the deadline neared Tuesday afternoon. The figure compares with 105 absentee votes in the first primary last month. Representatives from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service and Texas A and M College System are set to participate in both programs.

More than 100 young contestants are expected as the Comanche FFA and 4-H Club Rodeo opens for a three night run. Grand entry at 8 p.m. nightly with events including reining, bull riding, barrel racing, goat milking, calf riding, calf roping and bareback bronc. Proceeds from concessions fund improvements to the Junior Livestock Building.
