Frey, formerly of San Antonio, becomes general manager of Clay Material Company succeeding Buck. He brings forty years in the lumber business and aims to steady company growth while honoring past support from Turleys and other partners.
In College Station June 1 Stag Creek in Comanche County earned second prize of 400 dollars in the Texas Community Improvement Program. Shady Grove won 500 dollars for top progress, Stillman third, as 214 Texas rural communities competed and 6 800 dollars in prizes were awarded by sponsoring electric utilities.
Jerry Tucker purchased Owl Drug and Confectionery from J. W. Tucker and Mrs. Tucker. The family moved from Arlington to Comanche and reside at Keele Addition off West Wright Avenue. The Owl provides Western Union, taxi service, and bus station.
Mrs N A McMahan of El Paso Ed Garrett of Mercury and Mr and Mrs Dan Garrett of Brownwood visited here over the weekend along with Mrs Bob Brownlee and May Garrett.
Rain postponed the opening of the 1960 Comanche Summer Baseball Program and rescheduled weekend games due to the Junior Rodeo. Opening league play starts Tuesday with Gustine vs Dudley’s in Little League followed by Arthur’s Hot Rods vs Blanket in Babe Ruth.
Mrs. W. J. Pars oversees the kindergarten graduation at Me’s Flamingo Room on Friday night May 20. Seventy five attendees witness nine months of student progress as the class performs a march finger plays and self expression dance. Certificates and diplomas are awarded to named pupils with red mortar boards and white tassels.
Mrs. Davis has returned to her home in Comanche following a visit with her son Aaron Davis and his family at Roch.
George McKinney of Texas Power and Light designs the stage background for the Lake Eanes Park tabernacle as Comanche County readies the June 14 Community Improvement Awards at the Comanche Farm Ranch Night. Homer Gibbs oversees invitations with over 700 letters. Lions Club and Jaycees coordinate food, facilities, and traffic. Chamber leaders plan entertainment and program.
Ray Smith the Summer Youth Director announces a city program for ages 8 to 15 starting next week. Boys 12 to 15 register Monday at 9 at CHS Gym, while 8 to 11 register Tuesday at 9. They should bring baseball gloves as fundamentals begin the first two weeks. On Friday June 10 all boys meet at 9 at the City Swimming Pool for swimming.
A total of 57 ballots were cast by absentee voters in the Democratic primary run off as the deadline neared Tuesday afternoon. The figure compares with 105 absentee votes in the first primary last month. Representatives from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service and Texas A and M College System are set to participate in both programs.
Marty Snyder Gore presents her students in a dance recital at 8 p.m. Monday June 6 in the Comanche High School Auditorium. The show titled Star Studded Spectacular is sponsored again by the ES.A. Sorority.
More than 100 young contestants are expected as the Comanche FFA and 4-H Club Rodeo opens for a three night run. Grand entry at 8 p.m. nightly with events including reining, bull riding, barrel racing, goat milking, calf riding, calf roping and bareback bronc. Proceeds from concessions fund improvements to the Junior Livestock Building.
The U S Civil Service Commission announces an open examination for a Fourth Class Postmaster in Sidney with a $2 539 yearly salary. Applicants must reside in the Sidney post office territory and be at least 18 on the closing date June 21. No maximum age. those aged 70 may only be considered for temporary one year renewals. Obtain full requirements at the Sidney post office.
