Daniel Dingwall a veteran of Indian wars and Civil War who settled in Comanche Texas is honored with a new national pension listing. He recalls frontier service across Colorado Wyoming South and North Dakota including a trek through the Black Hills and Cheyenne Pass as his unit guarded wagon trains and faced hostile encounters.

Second Annual Comanche County Fair Catalogue 1891 Highlights

The 1891 Comanche County Fair in Comanche ran September 22 to 26 with J. F. McCarty presiding and F. E. Wilson as secretary. Directors included G. A. Beeman and L. B. Russell. Premiums and races dominated the program, including horse races with purses from 10 to 180 dollars, plus foot races, a mule race, greasy pole, and an ladies equestrian contest. The Buck Horn Saloon ad promises cold beer, cigars, and famed whiskey, evoking sunlit fields and harvest imagery.

Cards and dice burned on courthouse lawn

Cards and dice from several stores were piled in the courthouse square and burned Saturday morning as about a hundred people gathered to sing and pray. Rev. Ben F. Hearn collected the cards and dice for the bonfire and Mrs. J. W. Reese lit the torch. Forty eight decks of cards and four hundred four dice were burned.

Statewide August 1 Vote On Four Constitutional Amendments

An election will be held at all regular voting boxes statewide on Monday August 1 to approve or reject four proposed constitutional amendments. The measures seek to remove salary limits for state and county officers, adjust governor and legislature pay, reform the judicial system, expand the supreme court, and overhaul the state tax system with a tax commission in Austin changing assessment authority.
