Three escapees from Brown County Jail last Thursday night or Friday morning were captured near Hasse, eight miles east of Comanche. The trio—Uheesheed E. Kenninger, 35, Odessa. Francis Marion McGettis, 27, Comanche. Billy Lane Barton, Comanche—were found in a wooded area after a three-county posse closed in. They were held for assault with intent to murder and turned over to Brown County authorities.
The First Methodist Church announces a revival meeting led by Fort Worth evangelist Frank Turner from August 2 to 11 with twice daily services at 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Rev. Robert W. Walker and Rev. Dennis direct the event and choir, inviting all to attend. The revival will be held under the church’s tenure in Cross Plains.
Clara Carpenter of Comanche hosted Bertie Greer of Fort Worth for a reunion this week, their first meeting since college days at Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio. A Fort Worth sighting led to letters and plans for the visit.
Chairman of Reception Board and County Deputy Chairman of the Option Board will attend Monday nights meet to stress organized disaster response. Gene Brewer of the State Highway Patrol will direct the national meeting and outline needs for tornado fire and flood readiness, with Lt P Wynne of Fort Worth joining.
Comanche post office receipts for the fiscal year 1967 ending June 20 totaled 36 249 28 dollars, announced by Postmaster Robert Eaton. The prior year 1958 set a record at 37 026 75 dollars, just 70 dollars more. The tax year was led by the busiest period when receipts reached 113 326 18 dollars, with quarterly figures of 10 070 63, 8 33 57, and 7 252 00.
Mrs Frank Leach of Abilene visits her father Lee Hyatt in Proctor for the summer. Parrish family hosts visitors Mr and Mrs Luice Lax and daughters Janice and Carolyn and Mr Lax of Albuquerque NM, and Mr and Mrs Ray Dean with children and Mrs Libbie Dean of Dallas over the weekend. Mrs Dean stays for a visit.
Scattered rains brought variable totals from trace to over five inches in Comanche County. Reports show multiple farms receiving 1 to 4 inches, with De Leon, Duster, Proctor, Board Church, and Pettit Center area rainfall highlighted and some locations near 2 inches by midweek.
The Comanche County Livestock Association directors plan the annual banquet for August 9 as Otto Dudley urges full attendance. Meeting set Friday at 7:30 PM in Me's Cafeteria Comanches. Mrs. J. C. Hyatt summers with her parents in Colorado.
Brannan described remarks by Brewer as prompting county leaders to call a county-wide meeting Monday night. He urged public attendance and especially invited fire departments, public schools, community clubs, service, medical, and social groups to join.
Mr and Mrs Jake Durham and daughters Lou Ellen and Betty Grace left Sunday for a week in Missouri. They plan to attend the St. Louis Cardinals Brooklyn Dodgers series of baseball games.
Final regular season games set for Friday as the Durham Peanut Toppers threaten to retain first place with a win over the Raiders. A Raiders upset would tie the Toppers with the Saints at 6-2. Gustine and the Dudley Bros meet in Friday opener, with Gustine aiming for a third place tie with the Garagemen. last Friday the Saints beat the Toppers 3-0 behind Johnston and Whitworth. The city tournament runs Saturday and Monday, while Comanche hosts and plans participation in Stephenville July 31 to August 4 and an invitation event here next weekend.
