Cadet Gene H Arthur of Comanche Texas has completed T-28 flight training at Perrin AFB and now trains at Laredo AFB to fly the T-33 jet. The dual controlled jet includes an ejection seat and refrigeration, with speeds around 600 mph. Comanche hosts its annual Amateur Rodeo opening Thursday night July 24 running through Saturday. Top cowboys from the region headline a strong field with Brahma stock and roping special events. Former Gustine Youth Dies From Polio

Kenneth Dale Hilliard 17, a former Gustine resident whose parents moved to Brownwood, died of polio at City County Hospital Fort Worth. Funeral Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church Gustine with Rev Followell Brownwood in charge. Interment Evergreen Cemetery Gustine. Council Passes Peddler's Rule In Comanche

The City Council of Comanche approves an ordinance banning peddlers from selling on the public square and within one block of it along streets and alleys. It takes effect immediately with a farmers carveout allowing produce sales on the square outside the State Highway right of way.

REA set for August meeting and officer election

Comanche County Rural Electric Cooperative will hold its annual meeting and officer election at Lake Eanes Park in Comanche on Friday August 22. Seven directors will be chosen from districts in Comanche Brown Eastland Mills Callahan and Stephens Counties. Attendance prizes totaling about 300 dollars will be awarded including a major appliance. A noon picnic lunch will be served.
