Eanes Elected President of Old Settlers Reunion

Comanche County Old Settlers Reunion at Lake Eanes drew a large crowd for a one day session. J R Eanes was elected president, Walter Fritts vice-president, Mrs E G Wells secretary, and D E B Nabers treasurer. Other officers were re-elected. The program featured talks by old timers, a maiden speech by Mrs W B Cunningham, music by George L Morris, and a notable address by former congressman J S Callaway. Afternoon politics included H H Lockridge and Harris Lane for County Judge, with candidates for Congress Sam Russell and Clyde Garrett also speaking. The night program, directed by Charlie Nance, showcased county quartet singing with many leaders and quartets, praised as one of the county’s best.

Corporal Henry Wilcoxson Weds Imogene Green in Comanche

Corporal and Mrs. Henry Wilcoxson, pictured above, were married Friday July 21. The bride, before marriage Miss Imogene Green, is the daughter of Mr and Mrs T E Green of Comanche. Cpl. Wilcoxson is the son of Mrs. Lucille Wilcoxson of Winnsboro.

Carl Schwartz Dies At Priddy After 36 Years

Priddy resident Carl Schwartz aged 80 years 6 months 2 days died August 12 at 3:00 PM at his home. A German immigrant who settled in Washington County then Hamilton County before moving to Priddy in 1908, he was a deacon of Zion's Lutheran Church. Survived by five daughters Annie Tiemann Bettie Albright Emma Jeske Lydia Kunkel Ida Dearson. two sons Fritz and Charlie. thirty grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral held Sunday at Zion's Lutheran Church with Pastor A Muehlbrad officiating.

Old Settlers Reunion Receives Widespread Praise

The Old Settlers Reunion at Lake Panes Park enjoyed strong turnout and thanks from officers and hundreds of attendees. City of Comanche provided utilities. Comanche Chamber of Commerce Lions Club and numerous individuals contributed funds and services for expenses, meals, logistics, and publicity.

Comanche Baptist Session Plans at Lake Eanes

The Seventieth Annual session of the Comanche Baptist Association will convene at Lake Eanes on August 30 31 with a full program of devotional sessions, mission reports and sermons led by Dr W W Melton and others. Warren Paul Little 26 died July 27 from wounds received July 26 in France.

Dudney Returns From Army To Lead Local Tailor Shop

Bill Dudney has been honorably discharged from nearly two years in the Army Air Corps and returns to Comanche to run Dudney's Dry Cleaners. While enlisted at Scott Field Illinois, his wife Mrs Sarah Dudney managed the business here.

Noel Ferrell Killed in Action in Italy

Cpl. Noel Ferrell, 26, reported killed in action in Italy July 3 according to the War Department notice sent to his mother, Mrs. M. E. Melton of De Leon. He served in the Army about four years and had been overseas for two years, arriving in Africa in 1942 and later fighting in Sicily and Italy with American forces.

Carrett Russell Debates Draw Attention at Reunion

At the Old Settlers Reunion Friday Congressmen Sam M. Russell and Clyde L. Garrett spoke over an hour each. They traded political criticisms, outlined five points from each platform, and highlighted war aims, pensions, and postwar policy as Garrett and Russell alternated to defend their records. Garrett, ex Eastland County Judge, had been unseated by Russell, now seeking a third term while Garrett challenges him.

Pettit Promoted to Major While in France

Major B. E. Pettit formerly captain now serves as major with the 298th Combat Engineers in France. He has been overseas since January and has been in service two years. Mrs. Pettit and daughter Carolyn reside in Comanche with Mrs. Pettit’s family.

Democrats urged to vote as five races slated in primary

The county Democratic chair urged every Democrat to vote in Saturday's primary with five contested seats. A marriage note reports Miss Billye Jo Barnes wed to Pfc. Pipes at Brownwood First Baptist. The ballot lists state and county races with early returns expected and precincts urged to report promptly.

Dr E E Blackwood physician and surgeon moves his offices from the Comanche National Bank Building to 508 West Central Avenue establishing the Blackwood Clinic. The six bed clinic occupies the former home of the De Witt Claunch and Bryant O Baker clinic and will receive new equipment soon.

Red Cross Blood Drive In Comanche Increases Quota

The Red Cross calls for more donors as the Mobile Blood Unit returns September 11 to Comanche staying five days with a 250 donor per day quota, up from 200. City residents urged to sign up at Edmondson's Shoe Shop and prove equal patriotism to rural donors.

Eanes resigns Red Cross post after three years

J. R. Eanes who led Comanche County Red Cross Chapter as Home Service Chairman for over three years resigned last week. Postmaster Robert Eaton was named to fill the vacancy as Eanes cited impracticality of continuing Red Cross duties alongside his current work.
