Frank Gray 27 of Gorman grandson of Dr and Mrs A J Gray Comanche listed as missing in action over Burma by the War Department He is brother to nh Gray of Comanche overseas in Sardinia and to Sgt James Gray Comanche at Kelly Field Gray flew a small Army plane rescuing downed fliers and delivering medical supplies from bases in India.

Local firm arranges blood drive volunteers

Twenty five people from Farmers Cheese and Produce Company signed up to donate a pint when the Mobile Blood Unit visits September 11 to 15. Mrs. Elbert Cox credits R. W. Wyatt for the strong turnout and notes many are first time volunteers while earlier donors already pledged to give again.

Wheat and Denny Named Chairmen of Paper Drive

Jack Wheat and C. F. Denny are named co chairmen of Comanche County Scrap Paper Drive. The National Scrap Paper Drive opens August 20 for one month with a quota of twenty pounds per person. Citizens urged to collect paper for Boy Scouts, tie securely or box it, and place on curb for nightly pickup.

Kenneth Ory Promoted to Major in Service

Kenneth Ory, former Comanche physician and surgeon, promoted from captain to major. He has served 28 months, 27 overseas, and is currently stationed in Australia after much of his time in New Guinea. His wife received the cable last weekend.

Boykin Receives Silver Star for Valor in Italy

Sergeant Morris S. Boykin of the Anti-Tank Company 1411th Infantry earned the Silver Star for gallantry on December 27, 1948 near Mount Sammacro and San Vito Italy. He searched alone under heavy fire to reach a wounded soldier and carried him to safety despite frequent artillery and small arms fire. His actions inspired those nearby and reflected credit on the United States Armed Forces. The award was presented by General Mark W. Clark. Entered service from Corpus Christi, Texas.

Comanche Gunner Thomas Marshall Killed Over Germany

Staff Sergeant Thomas T. Marshall Jr., 21, previously reported missing in action after an air raid over Germany, has been confirmed killed in action July 13. He was a radio gunner on a Flying Fortress, stationed in England, and a 1941 Comanche High School graduate who captained the 1940 Indian football team. He is survived by his parents, two brothers in service and four sisters.
