First Melons Marketed Here In Comanche County Crop
The first of the 1945 Comanche County watermelon crop was marketed Monday when Homer Wilson and Virgil Cox of Comanche Rt. 1 delivered truckloads. Prices ran about 25 cents per pound as locals Lew is Bowers and J. J. Westbrook note the crop is only one fourth to one third of normal due to small acreage and spring rains. Steady melon movement is expected next week as melons appear in quantity by late week. Peaches remain heavy with typical prices of 1 to 1.50 per bushel while canvasoupes fetch 1.50 to 2.50 per bushel.
