Elizabeth Scitern died of heart failure at her son J S Scitern's home in Plainview on Tuesday June 28. She was laid to rest at Taylors Chapel Friday with Rev Ben F Hearn officiating. She was born April 30 1855 in Arkansas and moved with her husband to Comanche County Texas. Survived by five sons two daughters and multiple relatives. The family expresses sympathy and faith in eternal life.
Mrs Amanda Easterwood born 1855 in Kaufman County Texas died at her son Naomi Hensley’s home in Comanche on July 5. Funeral held at Energy Cemetery with Rev J Y Robinson officiating. Survived by son Naomi and grandchildren Clayton Hensley Leslie Hensley Jewel Allen. Husband and a son preceded her in death.
Rev Cox of Hasse started his pastorate here with Sunday services and a Saturday meeting. The annual revival will open Friday night before the first Sunday in August with Rev C A Morton of Hamilton preaching. Local families from Merkel Dublin Olney Ranger and San Saba visited relatives last weekend and Mrs Henry Stephens underwent appendicitis surgery at German sanitarium.
Will Randall reports a homemade boll weevil catcher built from canvass duck and cheese cloth on wheels. It covers twenty acres in three hours and traps boll weevils and other pests, killed by sulfur burn after use. A machine is on display at Higginbothams Lumber Yard.
Mrs Elizabeth Guinn died at her Comanche home on July 5 after a paralytic stroke. Funeral services were at Central Christian church with Rev Sam Dalton officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery. She was married to John Franklin Guinn in Illinois in 1870 and later moved to Texas. Eight children survive or are named, with several deceased, and she had long been a Primitive Baptist church member.
Abraham Isaac Kuykendall died in Yuba City California on June 29 1927 He was an early Comanche County settler longtime Lamkin resident later moved to Comanche then to Slayton and finally California He was regarded as a leading citizen A note mentions Higginbothams Lumber Yard advertising a sale of all size window glass.
