Highway 81 unit funding tied to Comanche bridges work
A $51,000 allotment was approved by the State Highway Commission on June 30 for the first unit of Highway No. 81 from Comanche South. Hilton Burks, secretary of the local chamber, said funds will cover replacement of the Indian Creek bridge in Comanche and the Horse Creek bridge south of town, plus a new 1.5 mile road from the Santa Fe Railroad to the Jim Redwine place. Work is not immediate as funds are not yet available.

Officers Seize 4642 Pints Whiskey in Local Raid
Saturday afternoon the raid at Jim Sanford's here yielded 4642 pints of whiskey. Eighth District Liquor Board supervisors W. L. Delaney and Tom Warren led the operation. charges were filed Monday before County Attorney D. P. Parker for possession of intoxicating liquor for sale and repetition of offense. Sanford posted a $500 bond.

The Oakwood Cemetery fence, a WPA project under the Comanche Garden Club, cost 2735.70 and spans 1600 feet. It features a 30 inch high rock veneer wall with a 30 inch base, 12 inch thickness, two main gates with 8 feet columns, and expands with joints to accommodate movement.

Comanche County Court House Grant Moves Forward
A $195,000 county court house project in Comanche County awaits only the President’s signature after a July 5 telegram from Congressman Clyde L. Garrett in Washington. County Judge R. S. McCharen reports a January 28 election approved a $75,000 bond that will be matched by $120,000 in WPA funds.
