The First Baptist Church of Comanche hosts a youth revival starting Sunday July 6 at 11 am led by an all star team from Baylor University. Jack Robinson returns as a pulpit sensation joined by Charlies T Wellborn and a quartet including Miss Billie Russell and Dick Baker.

Texas Peanut Wins First Softball Game Of Season

Interest grows in local softball as Texas Peanut claims its first win of the season and Vocational School holds the league lead with a 6-3 victory. The week features close games and resumptions of weekly doubleheaders with several late rallies and notable performances by teams like REA Higginbotham's and VFW. A schedule of upcoming games through July includes matchups between Texas Peanut, VFW, High School, and Vocational teams in the De Leon City Loop. Military Rites Here Sunday For Cpl. Blakemore

Cpl. Oliver Blakemore 44 killed in action in Japan during the week of May 11 18 will have a military funeral Sunday afternoon July 6 at Comanche Funeral Home. His body arrived in Seattle and was due to reach Comanche by Saturday July 5. A World War II veteran, he served as master sergeant, later reenlisting and attaining the rank of corporal.

Masons Set Barbecue Then Master Degrees July 3

Franks Honored For Jersey Dairy Improvements

Porter Franks, ex-president of the Comanche County Jersey Breeders Association, is praised for enhancing Jersey cattle in Comanche County. He led the association’s three bulls, aided 4-H and FFA projects, and bought a Jersey cow and calf for his daughter, later selling them with a $1,000 gain. Funeral Rites for Frank Green Held at Gustine Church

Funeral services were held Sunday at Gustine Baptist Church for Frank Green 55 a Comanche County native who died at his home in Gustine. Rev S J Isham led the rites and burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Green long suffered an incurable illness and in a period of pain took his own life with a .22 caliber rifle. He was the son of Elder W M Green and Carolyn Isham and spent most of his life in Creamer Gustine. Surviving are his widow Mary Smart two sons Gaston and Dale a brother Bob Green and several sisters.

Lamkin war veteran dies from heat in Waco

Harold Gene Hillhouse, 22, a World War II veteran, died Saturday afternoon after heat prostration while working on an automobile motor with cousin Clifford Watson. Temperature reached 97 degrees. Funeral services were held Sunday at Siloam Cemetery with Elder Len Dalton officiating. He was born February 11, 1925 in Gustine, served 33 months in the Army including 21 overseas in Europe, reached technical sergeant, discharged March 1947. Survivors include his parents, two brothers, and grandfather. out of town relatives attended.

Matched Roping Planned at Comanche Arena Wednesday

Belve Bean announces a special matched roping contest at the local rodeo arena on Wednesday night July 23 featuring Whitt Kinney of Stephenville and Ted Powers of San Angelo as top ropers. A jackpot contest and Brahma bulls will add to the program ahead of Comanche's August rodeo. Admission is 50 cents adults 25 cents children.
