Arm Bureau Picnic Draws Large Crowd At Sidney

About 2000 people attended the Farm Bureau Potton Association picnic at Sidney Friday. Four yearlings were barbecued and a large noon dinner was provided by baskets and spreads. John FB Owens of Dallas spoke on cooperative marketing to an appreciative audience.

Indictments Charge Fall Sinclair Doheney in Oil Lease Scandal

Indictments returned against former Secretary of the Interior Albert Fall Surrey FB Sinclair and Rainard IL Doheney and family allege conspiracy to defraud the government over leasing of Elk Hills California and Teapot Dome Wyoming. Bribery charges claim a $10,000 payment to Fall via a black satchel on November 30, 1921 to influence leases. The grand jury cites Senate records and asserts illegal order transfer of oil reserves from Navy to Interior.

State Receipts Jump After Heavy Collections

Austin Texas July 1 Heavy collections reported by the state treasurer Tuesday showed 702700 received with 442000 directed to the highway fund bringing its total to 4685902. Only a small portion went to the general fund whose balance is expected to vanish by July 15. One day this week the treasurer received sixty cents and the next day 50000. The special funds received so much that 500000 of the 8500000 Liberty Bond holdings were deferred from sale.

Hicks Family Reunion Set At Old Cora Farm

J. W. Hicks notifies the Chief of a Hicks reunion to be held at Old Corn Thursday with all relatives invited to attend and bring filled baskets for the day. It marks the third annual Hicks reunion. U S Cotton Crop Foresee 12,144,000 Bales for Year

Washington reports a 12,144,000 bale cotton crop projection for the year. Total cultivated area is about 40,405,000 acres, up 1,407,000 acres from last year. June 2 condition is 12 percent of normal, with state by state figures showing varied conditions and acreage across Virginia to Texas.

Tenas Scholastics Show An Increase

Austin July 1 sixteen counties have not reported scholastic census figures for the year. Education department estimates a 5 to 6 percent increase over last year with total enrollment to be finalized by July 10 for state board actions. State funds include a projected $18 per capita with $2 immediate. available school fund stood at $3.542 million. A vast books order from 1922 contracts will require over $3 million in expenditure, exact amount due July 10.

Primitive Baptist Association Plans Weeklong Meeting

The Primitive Baptist Association will convene next Thursday night at Md Shiloh school, continuing through Sunday. The gathering takes place nine miles from Comanche on the Comanche and Hamilton road near A. T. Perry's home, with access from a turnoff between a tank and a dipping vat.

Pastors and Workers Conference July 7 Held With Zion Hill

The Pastors and Workers Conference of the Baptist church will meet at Zion Hill church next Monday July 7. The program begins at 10 45 a m with devotional by J L Bishop and a prayer meeting led by W T Hamer and J C Boyd. At 11 a m a sermon follows and a community dinner at noon. After lunch at 1 20 p m topics include building a community school by W D Jenkins and building on community church by Mrs aris Smith.

Record pace in issuing bonus blanks in 11 days

The U S government distributed twelve million bonus application blanks in eleven days under Major General Robert C Davis. The task was split into two six million portions and mailed to distant points first to ensure simultaneous nationwide distribution. Initial distribution began June 16 and finished June 28.

Radio reports from New York say the McAdoo Smith deadlock at the national convention persists on the 60th ballot. By 1 AM New York time the session aims to nominate that night. McAdoo holds 495 votes. other totals include Smith 330 1 2, Davis 60, Ralston 42 1 2, Cox 0, Underwood 42.

Democratic platform pledge to restore farmers and curb trusts

The platform calls for tax cuts and tariff revisions, restoring farmers to economic equality, revising freight rates, abolishing the railroad labor board, and state control of intra state rates. It supports Muscle Shoals fertilizer production, resource conservation, recovery and prosecution of oil leases, government control of the anthracite industry, and a government merchant marine as needed.
