City buys ten acres for new dump ground south of Comanche

Confederate veterans entertainment planned in Comanche
Plans announced for a veterans entertainment at the Methodist Tabernacle in Comanche Texas on July 15 starting at ten o clock. All Confederate and Federal veterans and their immediate families and widows are invited with free transportation for those without a ride. Public attendance urged, refreshments for veterans and helpers, band concert in morning and Judge W Od Ford of Stephenville to speak, plus southern melodies and talks by veterans including some World War II veterans in the afternoon.

Rain boosts corn prospects after July Fourth shower
A July Fourth night rain aided corn crops in Comanche County with three quarters to an inch or more falling in spots. Some fields were beyond help, but overall yields look fair. Cotton crops remain healthy though bull weevils threaten, with a countywide push to combat the pest.

Pope Discusses Tax Free Platform In Texas Governor Bid
W F Pope of Corpus Christi candidate for governor spoke to 150 to 200 in Comanche district courtroom detailing his plan to cut state spending and abolish or consolidate boards and commissions. He argued no new taxes, criticized railroad issues and condemned textbook contracts as a major fraud costing millions and hundreds of thousands in school books. He named T W Davidson and urged opposition to convict labor on highways. He spoke from 8:30 to 11:15 p m after touring Hamilton and De Iver.

County Superintendent H Gantz releases the rural school report for 1923 24 for Comanche County listing 64 schools with 3673 pupils and 216500 dollars in property value. Attorney for Ed Walker Gibbs Howard and Walter Willman says he will bring 10 witnesses to Comanche next Monday for Truth Serum tests to be administered to the three defendants and Earl Henry the state's witness. The plan follows prior proposals to test Henry as well.

Boy Drowns While Playing at Club Lake
Gilbert Tatum fourteen year old son of Jeff Tatum of Brownwood drowned at Club Lake also called Anthony Lake in Comanche on Tuesday afternoon. He swam with two other boys then vanished while playing on a log as others dressed. Divers recovered the body, physicians failed to revive him, funeral held at Mullin, Texas.

Fourth of July Celebrated by Legion Post in Comanche
The American Legion held a big Comanche Fourth of July picnic starting with a flag raising and band concert at 8:30 a.m. Rev. R. R. Rives of Brownwood spoke in the afternoon on a patriotic theme. Donkey and automobile two cylinder races drew about three thousand spectators. cars valued under 25 dollars were eligible, with bidders limited to that amount.
