Advertising highlights include Gladiola White Cake mix, RAMBO'S beauty services, COMAN RODEO dates, and Drive-In theater on Tuesday night.
Gayle McNutt son of Mr and Mrs L E McNutt 605 W Highland Comanche has been named one of 73 winners of four year Opportunity Award scholarships to Texas A and M College He was selected from more than 500 top Texas high school boys after exams at the college May 7 and 14 The award valued 800 to 1200 with 200 to 300 yearly and part time work at the college
Announcement by Sills secretary Rotea notes a memorial at 10 a m and noon on Monday July 4. The gathering honors Adal Lamkin with participation from PP friends and old Tim-PP associates.
Higginbotham's held a slim edge in a tight Little League night as Dudley's stranded in the final inning. Topper Peanuts pushed across three runs to seal a 9-7 win over the Dudleys with Northcutt batting for the victors while Mac Morgan homered for the losers.

W B Nowlin promotes a big July 4th Singing Jubilee in Central West Texas with all day programs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hodges Park De Leon and City Recreation Park Stephenville. Headlining acts include the Blackwood Brothers and the Statesmen Quartet. Elvis Presley, Slim Willett and the Farren Twins also appear. Admission 50 cents children 1 dollar adults. First time Jubilee at Stephenville, eighth at De Leon.
Comanche gears up for July 7 8 9 rodeo with 150 plus top amateur cowhands promised and stock provided by Lloyd Woodley. Parade Thursday 5 pm led by the High School Band aims for 100 floats and 150 200 mounted riders with Fort Hood band invited. Rodeo events include calf roping bareback bronc busting and girls and boys events plus the 1955 Rodeo Queen contest to crown Friday night.
Barbara Davis of Comanche recently returned home from Fort Worth where she served as an instructor at the TCU Summer Twirling School. She taught 31 students in twirling and 64 in strutting during a June 6 to June 17 camp with 245 participants.
The Victory Baptist Church recently called Rev. J. L. Woolsey as pastor. Vacation Bible School runs this week evenings from 7 to 9 30 with an adult Bible class. Commencement exercises are Saturday at 7 30 with department demonstrations and handiwork displays. Everyone is invited.
The Comanche County Baptist Workers Conference will be held Thursday evening July 7 at South Copperas Baptist Church. Theme is The Rural Church and Missions with a program including supper, board meeting, song service led by Cecil Fisher, scripture and prayer by Raymond Butts, announcements, a message by R Elmer Dunham, and adjournment at 9 45.
Joe Harvey Mills a 59 year old painter formerly of Comanche drowned in the Guadalupe River near Seguin Monday. His body was recovered Tuesday and funeral services were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at South Copperas Baptist Church Newburg with interment in Newburg Cemetery. He is survived by his mother Mrs J J Mills of Comanche and siblings Jimmy Mills Lampasas Robert Mills Austin John Mills Vista California Mrs Oral Vines Brownwood Mrs Earl Seay and Mrs Will May of Comanche.
The Palmetto Polo team of Comanche rovers to face Cowtown Posse in Fort Worth Sunday at 7 pm at Cowtown Arena, opening round of a special Palmetto Polo Tournament. Other entrants include Weatherford Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto. The winner plays July 4 for the title. Comanche locally formed the team three months ago and has practiced at the rodeo grounds. In their only outside game last week they lost 8 3 to Weatherford. Expected players include Jack Riley Jim Ellis E J McDougal Donnie McDougal Lonnie McDougal Ikey Pipes Bally Robertson Joe Waring and coaches Willis et al.
Aubrey Johnson, veteran at Joe's Service Station, Comanche, buys Bally Robertson Humble Station this week and will run it as Humble Station starting Friday July 1. Robertson plans to farm, while Johnson, with experience at Joe Tupin Station and Humble Oil, opens at 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. with help from his sons Dean and Marlin Johnson and J. D. (Speck) Davis. The Johnsons live at 700 N Hart Street. the new station is 410 W Central.
Mr and Mrs Merlin Jenkins return home after a two week vacation to Vicaria California. They visited Mr and Mrs Norris Creek and children and traveled by plane.
West Texas Hereford Association touring group of 100 to 150 breeders visited Dudley Bros and Barret Hereford Ranches in Comanche and top herds in Taylor Coleman and Brown Counties. The tour featured the Hardy Grissom Ranch near Abilene and Dorothea Griffin’s Herefords with prize winning steer prospects.
