Mrs. Mark Corby Dies at 48 After Pneumonia
Mrs. Mark Corby age 48 of the Tater Hill Mountain community died January 23 after a 48 hour illness from pneumonia. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Corby in Newburg on January 4 with Rev. E. N. Strother of the South Leon Baptist Church officiating. She is survived by her husband and two children.

Surveying Starts On New City Water System
The Comanche City Council awarded the surveying contract for the new $250,000 water system to Freeze & Nichols of Fort Worth. Engineers are at work on the line to the Leon River, a filter plant, and a pump station after water rights were approved by the State Board of Water Engineers.

The Comanche Lions Club announced 61 new members at a Tuesday bi weekly meeting at the high school lunchroom. Membership rose to 137 the largest in club history and among the district leaders. District Attorney Sam Cleveland of Stephenville addressed 125 attendees with Brownwood Lions helpers on hand.

Beginning Of Service Drug Store History In Comanche
The Service Drug Store was organized in September 1932 by H M Vineyard and his late father M Vineyard. He recounts his father’s cash loan of 1500 dollars, his resignation from the First State Bank to start the business, selling to Ival Co Inter of De Leon in February 1934, and receiving payment by De Leon bank checks. He credits his deceased father for faith, support, and credit, noting they could not buy on open account for three months and that more cash was available if needed.

Miss Dale White Dies In Fort Worth Crash
Miss Dale White 21 daughter of Mr and Mrs H F White of Comanche Route 1 was killed instantly in a Fort Worth crash last Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Gustine with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Survivors include her parents two brothers H F White Jr and Darwin White and a younger sister Minta Joyce. A Fort Worth Press report says Leonard W Adcock 21 of Comanche Route 3 and a former Gustine football player faces murder and murder while intoxicated charges. he posted 1500 bond and was released.

Auto Crash Injures Four In Gustine Incident
A car crash left M. L. Smart 28 of 2712 S Jennings with serious chest trauma and head wounds. Margaret Boyer 23 of 3714 Elismere and Harvey Jack Hall 22 of Gustine sustained minor injuries. Poll Tax Payments Reach Record in Comanche County
Comanche County voters pushed poll tax receipts to 3250 by Wednesday in an off year, as assessor-collector J E Lightfoot announced. He said 200 to 300 more polls would be issued before the final deadline Friday January 31 for the 1947 elections.

Funeral Rites Held For Mrs. M. L. Holland
Maggie Louisa Holland 76 of Proctor died January 25 after a four month illness from an accident that caused a broken leg. Funeral services were held at a Dublin funeral home with interment in Proctor Cemetery. Rev. R L Graham led the rites. She was born Maggie Louise Livingston in Bosque County on May 26 1870. She married W M Holland on December 11 1892 who is now deceased. Survived by a daughter Willie Mae Carleton of Proctor and three grandchildren.
