James Claude Wilkerson III becomes editor effective December 30 succeeding his grandfather and father. A Comanche native, he attended UT Austin graduating in 1967 with a marketing major. He previously edited the De Leon Free Press and will work part time with The Chief. his wife Nancy and two children are named.

Crash Kills 18 Year Old Jimmy Windham on SH 16
Jimmy Mac Windham 18 of Route 3 Comanche died in a two pickup head on collision on State Highway 16 one mile north of Priddy at 9 05 p m Saturday December 28. Rodney T McDougal of Comanche drove the other pickup. Windham’s two passengers were injured Mitzi Wilkey of Goldthwaite in fair condition and Bill Barrow 16 of Comanche treated and released. Services were held December 30 at Oplin Baptist Church with burial in Tecumseh Cemetery. Windham born October 1 1956 in Baird had lived in Oplin and Comanche. He is survived by his parents a sister a brother grandparents and a nephew.

Mexican Man Drowns In Lake Proctor
Pablo Ledesma Vega a 36 year old Mexican man was found dead in the cab of a truck in the water off boat ramp No 2 at Copperas Creek Park Lake Proctor near Comanche. A companion swam ashore and was arrested for intoxication. Vega was pronounced dead by the health officer and survived by a wife and six children.

Bishop to Visit St Matthew's Church on Epiphany

Second escapee arrested at Early Brownwood motel
A Comanche County jail escapee Paul Lammons age 19 was recaptured Christmas by Early police officer Dwayne Miller and Brown County deputies at the White Sands Motel. Jo Ann Ensminger, a 20 year old Comanche woman, was arrested for aiding the escape and later pled guilty to related charges. Lammons is to begin a 2-5 year term after transfer to Texas Department of Corrections.
