An educational poultry field day for Comanche County raisers will be held at De Leon City Hall starting 9 30 a m on March 3 with about 700 attendees. Mrs. Cecil Starnes Dies In Mills County Auto Crash

Mrs. Cecil Starnes of Martin formerly Miss Mattie Little was killed when her car left the highway near Brown's Creek between Mullen and Goldthwaite. The crash occurred about 5 pm on February 18 as the vehicle rolled several times and she was thrown clear. Funeral services were held February 20 at the First Baptist Church in Mullin with burial in Mullin Cemetery.

Wildlife Association Formation Planned in Comanche County

A meeting is called for Wednesday March 5 at 2 30 PM in the Comanche County Courtroom to form the Comanche County Wildlife Association. Lee Coffey reports strong turnout hopes as officers will be elected and plans pursue protection and restoration of wildlife including deer and turkey while expanding habitat and game opportunities.

Belve Bean Elected Head of Comanche Roping Club

Belve Bean, local rancher and former professional baseball player, was elected president of the Comanche Roping Association at a Tuesday night meeting. Joe Evridge of Comanche was chosen secretary treasurer. New directors include M. E. Gore, John Pogue, Walter Hill, Harris Long, and Ernest McDougal. Plans discussed for a larger rodeo next summer likely in August and a Friday night meeting to discuss a horse race meet to benefit the Veterans' Building Fund.

Pioneer Resident R L Carnes Dies at Home

R L Bob Carnes a longtime Comanche County farmer died Saturday at his daughter’s home in Comanche. Funeral services were held Sunday at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev John G Lamb officiating. Interment followed in Zion Hill Cemetery. He was born September 23 1867 at Newburg and survived by four daughters a son a brother four half sisters and a half brother all listed as residents of Comanche and nearby areas.

Comanche office completes desk review of Old Age Assistance and Aid to the Needy Blind after state funding increase. Increases range from $1 to $3 per month, with 190,000 aged and 6,100 needy blind benefiting. Comanche Grants 15 Percent Fire Credit For 1947

Comanche increases fire insurance credit to 15 percent beginning March 1 1947 from 10 percent. The rise reflects low fire losses on older line properties and mutual company losses do not affect rates. Savings to property owners total thousands, credited to the Comanche Volunteer Fire Department under Chief Bob Graham for ongoing equipment upgrades and training.
