Farmers complete extensive soil improver projects in 1940 Comanche County

In 1940 Comanche County farmers built 82 miles of terraces along with other soil improvement works. They constructed 126 tanks and 11,000 feet of contour ridges while running 242,185 feet of contour furrows. Additional practices included contour planting on 21,920 acres and green manuring with crops like cowpeas and sweet sorghum.

Amateur Fights Tonight at Comanche High School Gym

About ten amateur bouts set for the Comanche High School Gymnasium tonight starting at 7 30. Ira Collins the former TAAF champion may headline if a suitable opponent is found. Rev Gregory of the First Baptist Church Archer City Texas will preach both morning and evening services Sunday at the Baptist church here. He will also speak to the men at a Sunday afternoon meeting. The Comanche Lions Club will host a banquet at Comanche High School on March 25 to honor FFA and 4 H clubs members and their fathers with entries in the Comanche Junior Livestock Show next Thursday. Sidney Cagers Triumph In District Opener

REA Cagers To Face Army Team Here Saturday

The Twenty third Infantry champions of Fort Sam Houston meet the Comanche REA at Comanche High School gym Saturday night in a fast game. Army star Bill Hicks, formerly with Newbury and RBA, plays for Fort Sam Houston. Fans will hear music at half time. admission 10 and 15 cents.

First Plans For July Rodeo Made By Ropers Club

Comanche Amateur Roper's Association directors met Tuesday night February 25 to plan a bigger and better rodeo in Comanche on July 3 and 4. The first Comanche July 3 and 4 Rodeo, supervised by the association, was a huge success last year. Wayne Evridge is president and Ira Clemons secretary-treasurer.

Two Farmers In Salt Branch In Fatal Brownwood Scuffle

Luther Hutton, about 55, died after a scuffle on the Brownwood courthouse square at 12 20 pm Monday. The other participant fled the scene after authorities sought him for questioning. Hutton, formerly of Comanche County, was pronounced dead at the scene amid reports of a chair being wielded during the altercation.
