The Comanche Milling Company has not changed owners. The Durham Pecan Company bought the old building and part of the machinery, while Comanche Milling moved to the Howard Garage Building near the Ridgeway Hotel. The firm shifts focus from flour and feed to tractors and cement, adding a repair shop and parts, while continuing poultry remedies and other products.

Fights Planned Here For Next Friday Night

The Comanche FFA Chapter led by Ralph Moser will host an amateur fight night at Comanche High School gym on Friday night. Aubrey Wilhelm and Ira Collins will appear on the card. Wilhelm is a four time district Golden Gloves middleweight champion and former TAAF light heavyweight champ who recently advanced to the State Golden Gloves semi finals in Fort Worth. Collins lost to Sweetwater’s Jay Turner in the state heavyweight final after a tough opening round. Moser cites local fighters Grady Ripley J C Wilhelm and Buddy Hicks plus others from Brownwood and Ranger on the event card.

Shiloh Church Dedication Set For Sunday

A new rock veneer church building, 24 by 36 feet, near Comanche will be dedicated Sunday with Elder Len Dalton of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church preaching at 11 a.m. Rev. E N Strother of Pettit Baptist Church will lead the later service after lunch.

Girls County Case Tourney Opens In De Leon

The Comanche County Inter scholastic League basketball tournament began Thursday at the De Leon Municipal Building with Oliver Springs facing defending Class C champions Lamkin. Other Thursday games included Gustine vs Sidney Beattie vs Hasse and Duster vs Proctor. Friday games schedule Sipe Springs against the Duster Proctor winner then De Leon vs Comyn with Friday finals set for Class A and Class B titles. Lamkin seeks another Class C crown while Beattie and Hasse contend for Class B and Gustine, Sidney, Comyn lead Class A with an upset chance from Gustine.

Death of D. L. Morris Former Comanche official

D. L. Morris known as Lee Morris dies at his Sipe Springs home on Monday. Funeral held at Sipe Springs Baptist Church with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. He served on Comanche City Council and as Precinct 1 Commissioner from 1924 to 1928, born October 10, 1862 in Union Springs Alabama. Survived by his widow Maggie and 7 sons, 4 daughters, 26 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several siblings. He moved to Texas in childhood and remained active in farming and business until 10 years ago.

Welfare Office Relocated to Square in Comanche County

The Comanche County Welfare Office has moved to the square, upstairs in the Lindsey Building above the Bowers Fruit Stand. It previously occupied the Gille Building on Brownwood Street and earlier rooms once used by Dr. Gray and Attorney C. C. Hampton. Mrs. Ernestine Arthur, county welfare chairman, interviews applicants each Tuesday and oversees the CCC enlistment from the county.
