Wood Horse Triumphs at Hot Springs Race

A 30 to 1 longshot named Wood Horse, ridden by E. E. Blackwood, won the Oak track race at Hot Springs on Monday. The Comanche horse finished first in the 54 furlong event, marking a strong start to the 1955 racing season with a consistent money win.

Infant Washburn Stillborn in Bell County Family Home

Ann Washburn infant daughter of Mrs. Clarence Arthur Washburn of Lake Road Coman, Midway Bell County, died Sunday February 1, after being stillborn. The baby was the child of Flossie Washburn before marriage.

Barret Hereford Female Tops San Antonio Sale

The Barret Hereford Ranch of Comanche led sale results at the San Antonio Exposition Sale with the top female selling for 785 dollars. Roy Elbet paid 2000 dollars for a Hereford bull from Stanton Hereford Ranch Johnson City, while Arthur Nentwich bought the top female for 785 dollars. Sixty three bulls averaged 504 dollars with total 31745 dollars and 17 females averaged 398 dollars totaling 6760 dollars. Barret Herefords captured 1 first and 2 second places at the show boosting their recent Fort Worth and Houston awards.

Washington Masonic Day program draws 138 attendees

A dinner for 138 followed a Washington Day program at the Masonic Temple. W. B. Sartor presided. Rev. Henry M. Chambers spoke on George Washington. Miss Frances Stinebaugh, a Masonic Home junior, described life there and received applause. The event featured Patsy Wilhelm and Bob Carter with Jeannine Gleaton on piano.

Hamilton Mail Carrier Dies After 40 Years of Service

Horace J. Fowler, 62, longtime rural mail carrier based in Hamilton, passed away last week at Gatesville hospital. He served the community for four decades and was known for his dependable route. Funeral arrangements were not listed in the obituary.

Pottsville High School girls coached by Fred Curry beat Sidney 45-34 to clinch the Class B district championship in Gustine. Pottsville led 10-6 after the first quarter and 26-14 at halftime, then 38-24 after three. Pottsville advances to face Jonesboro on a neutral court for bi district honors.

Gustine FFA Boy Wins Calf Scramble at Houston Show

James Adcock, Gustine High School agriculture student, won the Calf Scramble in the Houston Fat Stock Show with a 160 pound Black Angus named Tar Baby. He earned $2.50 cash and a $50 prize for the calf’s weight gain versus cost, with the calf later selling for 46 cents a pound. He plans to return next year with his own calf after touring Schlumberger plant in Houston with Bud Griswold.

Funeral Rites Here Friday For R. G. Morris

Funeral services for R. G. Morris age 60 are set for Friday at 2:00 PM at Comanche Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pendergrass Cemetery near Sidney. Morris, brother of Oral D. Morris Comanche County Precinct No 1 Commissioner, died Tuesday in a Veterans Hospital in Popular Bluff Missouri. His home was in Squires Missouri.

Five Die in Car Truck Crash Near Brownwood
