Reese Butane and Appliance Co of Comanche has earned a Certificate of Meritorious Achievement from the American Insurance Company Houston via Burton Insurance Agency. The award honors safe practice and proper installation, noting ten years with no losses or accidents and praising Mr. Reese and staff.
Aunt Jemima, the world’s trading pancake artist, visits Comanche next Friday night at the Veteran’s Building. The event, sponsored by the Comanche Lions Club, benefits the Lions Club Charity Fund. Ticket sales are brisk with hopes to feed about 1,500 people.
The Comanche Lions Club hosts an all you can eat pancake event Friday from 5 30 to 9 00 pm with music. Tickets price 50 cents, proceeds benefit the Lions Charity Fund aiding crippled children eye exams and other local needy. Tickets available at Chamber of Commerce or at the Veterans building door.
Airman First Class Harold L. Shankle of Alamogordo New Mexico has been named Airman of the Month for January at Hellman Air Development Center. His duties included radio control selection and maintenance for the 3225th Drome Squadron Electronics Shop, with praise for reliability and technical skill.
A Comanche Little League meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night February 22. Sponsors managers and other adults are invited to attend to help organize the summer program. Officials say many boys are interested in playing this season and call for active adult involvement.
Comanche High School plans a football banquet March 18 at the local gym. Sponsored by the Comanche Chamber of Commerce and the Comanche Lions Club, the event honors the 1954 Indians bi district champions with 10 wins one tie and one loss. Tickets are $1.50. Targets included H Y Mercantile C V Biggs Service Bally Robertson Service Smith Motor Co and Comanche High School Building. Clues point to multiple break ins with vandalized doors and forced windows as investigators seek arrests.
Willie Tupin attended the General Motors Training Center in Garland to learn advanced automotive service techniques for his work at Arthur Chevrolet. The two day course is part of GM’s nationwide network of centers to keep dealer staff up to date on changes and new techniques.

Jack Hudson of the Corps of Engineers outlined flood control, conservation and recreation goals as a long delayed project with a 4 830 acre lake and 12 650 acres total area. Several area landowners attended as guests.
The Burton Bible Class of the First Methodist Church Comanche sponsors a chili supper Monday February 21 to raise funds for a new chapel organ. Serving begins at 5 30 PM with home made chili coffee and pie for sale and a game room offering 42 and dominoes.
Mr and Mrs Russell Anderson announce the birth of a son named Thomas Lynn at Blackwood Hospital on February 13. The boy weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and measured 19.15 inches long. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs T A Anderson and Mr and Mrs J W Littlejohn.
More than 140 Cub Scouts leaders friends and parents gathered at the First Methodist Church on Tuesday evening February 15 to celebrate the 45th Birthday of Boy Scouting in the USA. Cub Masters Raymond Burton and Bill Gould Den Mothers Oswell Brightman Euell Lightfoot John Stewart Virgil Norris Grady Ripley Ted Durham Thomas Foreman organized a banquet with blue and gold den colors. The event featured ceremonies awarding Bob Cat Wolf Bear and Lion badges to named scouts and a speech by Dwight Brightman linking Cub Scouting to the FBI past service.
The Indians beat Winters 47 44 with Deforrh scoring 17 and Dale Burhover leading high points. Illness and fouls cut the lineup to seven, seniors Price and Coulter fouled out. The win puts the Indians at 3 9 season and into fifth, ahead of Lake View, Coleman tops the district field with Ballinger Winters and Tieteen.
Four top teams clash at Comanche High School gym Friday as Lipan and Brookamith meet in Class B Bi District finals for boys and girls. Brookamith earned both district titles at Early Rich School last week among Brown McCatlock and Mills counties. Lipan teams crowned by Erath Wood Somervell and Parker counties boast strong records. The Lipan girls also beat Pottsville in the German tournament. Funeral rites were held for Tom Clyde Marshall Yoakum High athletic director and coach, 37, native of Comanche, who died February 9 in Houston after a brief illness.
Gustine public schools will close for the rest of the week after sickness spread among students. Superintendent Joe Sartor cites ongoing illness as the reason. Comanche schools report 15 percent absent due to illness on Wednesday.
The Comanche County Pension Club No. 1 met February 5 at 2 p m with guests O H Moore of De Leon and his California brother. A large crowd heard talks. Next meeting is Saturday February 19 at 2 p m in County Court room Comanche. Letters from Senator Doyle Willis Representative W R Chambers and Congressman Omar Burleson will be read.
The West Ward School second graders performed The Shoemaker and the Elves at the February PTA meeting. Mrs. Joe Evridge’s pupils read aloud, followed by a Founders Day style show. One hundred twenty-nine parents attended. Mrs. Pinson's room won the attendance award. Refreshments and a social hour concluded the event.
Mr and Mrs F J Sliger of Comanche announce the birth of Jerry Dean on February 6 at 8 02 am in Memorial Hospital Brownwood. The maternal grandparents are Mrs Alice Stewart Brownwood and Jack Denton, while the paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Jessie Sliger of Comanche.
Walter B Barret of the Barret Hereford Ranch was elected vice president of the Texas Hereford Association at the Fort Worth banquet. Other officers include Seymour Arledge as president Ruby Roeder as first vice president Henry Elder as secretary treasurer. Ted Alexander retires as president. Officers serve a two year term.
Sunday School attendance in Comanche rose past 1000 again last Sunday despite widespread sickness. Reports from churches show 1040 in attendance this week with efforts underway to reach all congregations and gather weekly totals.
