Thomas Floyd James 35 an unemployed laborer was found dead Sunday afternoon with his head in five inches of water along Indian Creek near the Pecan Belt Highway. The body lay on the creek bank with the head downward as if attempting to drink. Authorities ruled death by unknown causes after a coroner’s verdict.

The Comanche County interscholastic tournament starts at Hasse High School Gym today and tomorrow. Beattie High School, defending champions for two years, are favorites. Homer Miller was re elected as superintendent of the Gustine Schools by the local school board this week. He moved to Gustine last year from Sidney where he had been principal and had formerly served as principal at Lamkin and Fairy. W F Nabers Dies at 85 in Stephenville Texas
W F Nabers aged 85 died at his Stephenville home Monday after a year long illness. Services were held at De Leon Methodist Church with burial in De Leon Cemetery. He was born January 5 1853 in Corinth Mississippi and moved to Texas in 1894 settling in Comanche County. He leaves ten children among many relatives and friends across multiple communities.

Beckham Found Guilty of Murder in Zephyr Killing
Tol G. Beckham, 67, convicted of murdering Raymond Thompson, 22, in Zephyr on June 30, 1936. Jury in Brownwood’s 35th District Court sentenced him to 18 years after a five hour ten minute deliberation. Thompson was shot twice on a street.
