A major newspaper led a wide spread circulation drive in Comanche County and neighboring areas. Ladies nominated across three districts earn 100 000 points for each nomination plus bonus points for clipped coupons and reader cooperation.
Strong egg and cream markets lift Coman che county as favorable weather drives early production. Culling peaks move hens and chickens into market while butter fat shipments surge, giving local producers steady weekly income and improving overall community conditions.
At a recent school board session officials reviewed finances and approved reducing outstanding indebtedness by 2000 dollars. The report shows a year end balance around 3000 dollars after paying teachers, fuel, insurance, and tuition obligations. The board notes years of losses and credits prudent management for debt reduction.
Work has begun this week on a new filling station on the property rail and which station will be one of Wade Everidge just opposite the of a series of Pennant Filling Stations and shops according to the statement of W. C. house local representative for the Pierce Corporation. The new station is to be a modern station in every way as well as to have a commodious workshop.
At its regular meeting last Monday the Commissioners Court appointed Dr. J. Q. Lane as county health officer to succeed Dr. A. J. Grey who recently resigned. “Better Than Gold” by local high school students will be staged tonight at the high school auditorium with proceeds aiding the annual.
R Withers has taken the agency of the Singer Sewing Machine Company at Comanche and has assumed charge of the business He will maintain an office on the north side of the square for Singer Machine patrons according to his statement
R. T. Wade of San Angelo will establish a modern bottling works in Comanche open for business about March the Ist. Wade brings bottling experience and will lease and remodel the Tea Plant of Barry Prothers adjoining the railroad tracks to aid shipping. The new industry will add local merchandise already shipped from neighboring towns.
Favorable weather spurs a record grain crop in Comanche County as farmers, without guidance, plant the largest grain acreage in history amid adequate moisture and mild temperatures. They anticipate a bumper yield and plan to handle the expected heavy harvest.
Lions Club meeting reveals committees for a townwide cleanup campaign led by civic groups. P T A members Mrs. Luker Mrs. Eaton and Mrs. Jessup named. Study Club picks Mrs. Waring Mrs. Slack and Miss Thomas. Lions Club and Judge Luker Hoff Wilkinson Sullivan Eanes form another committee. Further plans expected soon.
Comanche Chapter No. 147 of Royal Arch Masons is reconstituted after a two year dormancy. At Waco last December the grand convention restored the chapter, and officers were elected led by High Priest John D. Waring with L. B. Russell as King. A framed engraving of King Solomon's Temple was presented by L. B. Russell on behalf of R. E. Camp and N. W. J. Hayon.
A PTA meeting will be held Friday evening February 25 at 7 20 in the High School auditorium. Mrs C R M Dudley president announces the program includes a one act play by Mrs Romeo Walker Public Speaking class and five minute faculty talks from Miss Minnie Cunningham Mrs J H Huff and W D Jenkins with W H Rowland speaking for the School card.
L E Stockard 48 longtime Farm and Ranch field editor in charge of rural school work died at his home in Waxahachie. Born in Tennessee, he moved to Texas in 1920 for health reasons and later joined Farm and Ranch in 1926. He originated the four square school plan and organized community work through schools. Surviving are his wife two daughters a son a brother and his father in Colombia Tennessee. Funeral in Harper Gillespie County.
