Gift From Abilene Man Becomes Nixon White House Keepsake
William F. Bryant of Abilene crafted a hand hammered brass vase from a WWI 105 mm shell as a gift to President Richard M. Nixon. The piece, completed after 90 to 100 hours of hammering, features 49 stars and a Texas map centerpiece with an inscription honoring Nixon’s 1968 election. Bryant, longtime Comanche County resident and former ASCS chairman, began the project while living in Sidney and completed it after moving to Abilene with his wife.
