Gustine High School defeats DeLeon Bearcats 23 to 20 to claim the County Championship in a tense final played at DeLeon. Gustine led early but DeLeon closed the gap, with the Bearcats within one in the last period before Gustine held on. Sidney and Beattie contributed to Gustine’s class B crown despite Beatty’s prior run.

The city council passed Ordinance 10 to stop selling any article not grown in Comanche County on public streets and the square. Officials stressed the measure protects local merchants while not restricting farmers selling their own produce or items from Comanche County. The ordinance takes effect immediately upon publication.
Ira Clemons, longtime Gulf Filling Station manager, assumes charge of the Gulf agency in Comanche on Friday succeeding R. A. McCuhen who led the agency for sixteen years. Clemons previously worked as a car salesman for the Comanche Bot Co.
The campaign's highest total was 774 pairs left Monday at Elkins Tin Shop. Prize winners include Wayne Williams with 166 pairs, H Teeman 136, Carl Hall 101, Travis Rutherford 98, and J D Hicks 87.

About 700 fewer automobiles were registered year to date than last year up to February 2. In Comanche County 2400 registrations occurred since the penalty took effect, versus 3100 on the same date last year. Total registrations last year were about 3500. January tax collections fell about 11 percent to roughly $200,000 from $230,000. November and December collections were higher than and after deferment talks in Lewisville.
George Pate operates the Sweet milk route from Comanche to the Goldthwait Cheese Factory and now runs the route daily due to warmer weather. He welcomes interested customers to see him, and invites visits to the new location south of Durham Bros for better service.
Comanche High School Dramatic Department presents a free performance in the school auditorium Thursday evening February 12 at 8:00 o clock. Mrs R S Walker leads the program using newly equipped scenery and special numbers with the shows titled Sweethearts Review and Down Memory s Lane inviting county residents to attend without any charge.
About 80 percent of city and school taxes were paid before February, down from 90 percent last year. School taxes 25 217.91 assessed, 25 t uncollected, city taxes 20 583.88 assessed, 5 566.98 uncollected. Poll taxes 226 paid this year vs 234 last year. street taxes 59 paid vs 86.

The Texas Highway Commission will advertise bids at its February meeting for a $185000 bridge to replace a 50 year old span over the Brazos River at Granbury. Gibb Gilchrist announces the plan as part of widening traffic from Fort Worth to the southwest. Detours on Highway 10 are being planned using nearby routes to avoid the new structure during construction. Other bridge projects on Highway 10 include spans over Paluxy Creek near Bluffdale and Leon River in Comanche County.
